Manny Pacquiao is officially retiring and his wife Jinkee couldn't be happier

The living legend's fighting days may be coming to an end but this is simply the beginning of a new fight. What's next for Manny and Jinkee?

It’s normal to feel a twinge of sadness now that Pacquiao will officially be retiring from boxing. The eight-division world champion has brought such pride to the nation and his contributions to the sport remain unmatched.

Though many fans will feel a great loss, his wife Jinkee considers it an answered prayer.

In an interview with INQUIRER.net last January 21 in Manhattan, New York City, Jinkee Pacquiao said, “We’ve been praying for it ever since he lost to Juan Manuel Marquez in 2012.”

The couple, who have been married for nearly 16 years, share the same goal. Their paths have always been aligned but now they’ll be converging with a same goal to focus on their political aspirations.

Political pair

Currently, Jinkee Pacquiao is the incumbent vice-governor of Sarangani province.

Manny’s retirement, which will be made official in April, is perfect timing since, according to Jinkee, he is running for the Philippine Senate.

“That’s what he really wants now. He’s already 37 after all,” shared Jinkee with the INQUIRER. “And wala na siyang dapat patunayan pa. I have so much faith in him whether as a boxer, a politician or a husband.”

His last fight before his new fight

“It’s sad to say that this is my last fight, with Tim Bradley, and sad to say that after this, I am going to retire and hang up my gloves and focus on my big responsibility in life to help my people,” Pacquiao said. “Well, if he’s going to be senator, he can’t be boxer at the same time,” longtime friend and coach Freddie Roach told INQUIRER.net. “I think he already has too much on his plate. If he’s going to be senator he needs to retire from boxing. Both jobs are very demanding.” His last fight will be in the Welterweight division against Tim Bradley. It will take place on the 9th of April at the MGM Grand Arena Las Vegas. This is the third time Pacquiao will be battling Bradley.

“Matagal na akong kinu-kumbinsi ng Mama ko at ng mga kamag-anak ko na tama na ‘yung boxing [My mother and other relatives have long been asking me to quit boxing],” he said. “Ang pag retire nako akong decision ni ug sa akong pamilya [My retirement is a personal decision along with my family].”

We’re happy for you, Manny! Take time to rest and enjoy uninterrupted bonding moments with your family. You Deserve it!
