Dr. Jesus Delgado Memorial Hospital, more popularly known as Delgado clinic, has introduced the Optimal Birth Outcome (OBO) program which is a free three-day workshop “that serves as the ultimate care, support and education system for moms-to-be designed to minimize or even eliminate congenital defect, premature birth, new-born infections, and other chronic complications for both mothers and children.”
What is Optimal Birth Outcome?
Optimal Birth Outcome (OBO) happens whenever there is zero or a reduction of birth-related complications. The goal of the OBO program is to provide the best possible childbearing outcome for the mother and child.
It focuses on five important aspects of health that have a significant impact on pregnancy:
1. Nutrition and Wellness
Nutrition is important when it comes to reducing the risk of negative birth outcomes. Proper nutrition and wellness also help the baby to achieve optimum growth and development for the baby.
2. Biotransformation and Elimination of Toxicants
The OBO program “equips mothers with the practical knowledge of avoiding and substituting today’s most commonly used harmful chemicals.”
This means that the OBO program can help mothers avoid exposing themselves to harmful toxins and chemicals that can be detrimental to the baby’s development.
3. Stress Management
A mother’s stress can have a significant impact on a developing child’s brain. The OBO program can help moms learn how to cope with managing stress and avoiding stressful situations.
4. Exercise During Pregnancy
Exercise during pregnancy is something that a lot of mothers tend to forget. Maintaining frequent physical activity even during pregnancy can help mothers avoid any discomfort during pregnancy, and helps the woman’s body cope with labor, delivery, and recovery after birth.
5. Sleep Management
Sleep is very important during pregnancy. A good sleep pattern helps mothers prepare for birth, and helps the baby’s development inside the womb.
Having good sleeping habits also helps protect the baby from psychological stress and the strain of pregnancy.
