Is pumping in public awkward? Bianca Gonzalez pumps at an NBA game

Many pumping and nursing moms can relate to needing to pump or feed their babies at unusual places!

Moms only want the best for their children. Nutritionally, that means breastmilk! So despite being in a jam-packed arena, Bianca Gonzalez-Intal made sure she didn’t miss her pumping session.

Bianca was with her husband JC Intal at the Oracle Arena in California to watch a basketball game. Like most of the people in the crowd, they both wore a yellow “Strength in Numbers” shirt. Bianca shared on her Instagram post that her super large shirt was a great way to cover up.

Officially THE most awkward place I have ever had to pump milk.. at the Oracle Arena WHILE watching the Dubs game!! ???????? But hey, the super large #StrengthInNumbers shirt makes for a great pumping cover up!! ???? #mommydiaries #breastfeedingmom

As is often the case, someone asked why she couldn’t do it in the restroom instead. Of course, supportive fans were quick to say that there is nothing wrong with what she did.

Many pumping and nursing moms can relate to needing to pump or feed their babies at unusual places – jeeps, planes, stores, beaches, you name it! Fortunately, commercial establishments and offices in the Philippines are already providing lactation stations as required by Republic Act No. 10028, the Expanded Breastfeeding Promotion Act of 2009.

But for those who find themselves in awkward spots, just remember that this is something you are doing for your baby. There really is strength in numbers and our courage combined can help normalize breastfeeding and pumping in public. As commenter hayme4nadya told Bianca, “mommy’s gotta do what a mommy’s gotta do. #supermom”
