SG scientist and mom shares her thoughts on having two gay sons

"I was worried for them, that their lives might be difficult, that they might face lots of challenges..."

Singaporean lab scientist, Dr. Khoo Hoon Eng, is a mother of two gay sons who both came out to her on separate occasions.

Though unprepared, she reacted in a calm and encouraging manner.

When her first son came out to her, she replied sensibly:

“At that stage, since I hadn’t really thought about it or found out a lot of information, I basically said, ‘Oh you’re so young, how do you know? Just continue to be friends with a lot of people.’”

In a heartwarming video, Dr Khoo shares her thoughts and gives advice to other parents of LGBT children. She answers questions like:

… and shares misconceptions that parents have about having LGBT children.

She tells parents of LGBT children to learn more, to break away from the thought that it’s their fault, and to talk to their children.

In the end, she says, “Your happiness should be tied up with your children’s happiness… Please choose love.”
