Nowadays, people use social media for a lot of things. Some people use it for advocacies, to share stories, or just share their positive or negative experiences. In this case however, one woman’s attempt at shaming a ‘rude’ taxi driver backfired when she shared it on Facebook.
Netizens thought differently
According to the Facebook post and the accompanying video, which has now been taken down, the woman’s dad and the taxi driver are shown having a misunderstanding when it comes to the route that they were going to take. The woman’s father was very insistent that the driver took the wrong route that had heavier traffic.
They also had another argument when the father asked the taxi driver to go out of the regular route so that they can buy medicine at a drugstore. The driver agreed, but he said that since it would be out of the way, they had to pay him extra.
This clearly didn’t sit well with the father and daughter, since they were frustrated that the driver took a different route and then was charging them extra so the daughter took a video of the entire incident and then posted it online, possibly thinking that she might get some sympathy. However, netizens looked at the situation differently.
They didn’t pay the driver
What followed was a backlash of negative comments directed against the daughter, who they now dubbed ‘Taxi Girl’. A lot of the netizens felt that instead of the taxi driver being arrogant, it was her and her father who acted wrongfully.
They felt that the taxi driver was justified in asking for extra money since he would be inconvenienced by taking them to the drug store. They added that the father and daughter were very rude towards the taxi driver, and coupled with the fact that they didn’t pay the driver, they were the ones in the wrong here.
Clearly, it just goes to show that sometimes, it’s just better to resolve a problem by talking it out calmly instead of trying to make a big deal out of it. Especially nowadays, since you see a lot of people posting similar stories online, and it kinda makes you wonder whether their statements are true or not, since you’re just getting one side of the story.
What do you think moms and dads? Was the taxi driver wrong? Or were the father and daughter the ones at fault?
