4 Things from your past that have an impact on your relationship with your spouse

You'll be surprised to know just how much of an impact your past can have on your marriage! Read on to find out more.

Your past experiences have molded you into the person that you are right now. However, you might not realize just how much of an impact your past can have on your marriage.

Here are 4 things from your past that have an impact on your relationship:

1. Your parents’ relationship with each other

The way your parents are in their marriage has a huge impact on how you will act once you’re married. Most of the things that you learned about relationships, you learned from your parents. If they fought a lot, if they were sweet with each other, etc., those all play a role in your current relationship dynamic now that you’re married.

That’s why it’s also important for you to maintain a loving relationship with your spouse since your kids will most likely follow the example that you set in your own marriage.

2. How your parents raised you

This one’s pretty self-explanatory since the way your parents treated you and raised you when you were young can affect your relationships with people, especially with your spouse. A branch of psychology called ‘attachment theory’ focuses on this, and they found conclusive evidence showing that the way that parents take care of their babies have a significant effect on how their children handle relationships when they grow up.

3. Your religious upbringing

Your faith has a big impact on how you handle your marriage. Most people who have are religious or have a strong faith are more likely to get married. People who are less religious or aren’t practicing their faith are less likely to get married.

4. Your friends

Your friends also have a huge impact on how your marriage is. The way that your friends are with their relationships can influence you to act in similar ways, or learn from what they did wrong in their relationships.

It’s a form of peer pressure, and you’ll also find that most couples whose friends already have kids can sometimes ‘get jealous’ and then decide to have kids of their own.
