Wife of heart attack victim plans to sue responders who caused her husband to fall from stretcher

Wife of heart attack victim plans to sue responders who caused her husband to fall from stretcher

She shared that her husband might have survived his heart attack if he didn't fall from the stretcher.

Jacquiline Labaclado could only thing of her husband Hennebel’s safety when he suffered a heart attack last Wednesday, August 2.

However, she was not prepared to see her husband fall off the stretcher while he was being taken out of the ambulance by the responders.

He could have survived

According to reports, Hennebel Labaclado suffered a heart attack, so his wife called for an ambulance immediately rushed him to a hospital in Surigao City. Once they arrived, the paramedics tried to take him out of the ambulance using a stretcher, but for some reason, the paramedics were unable to carry him properly, causing him to fall off the stretcher and hit his head on the pavement.

Jacquiline shares, “Parang niyog na nahulog, napakalakas po talaga ng impact,” when asked about her husband’s fall. She also maintains that her beloved husband could have survived the heart attack, if only he didn’t fall and hit his head.

Because of the incident, Jacquiline plans on suing the hospital for failing to keep her husband safe. She is now in coordination with the Public Attorney’s Office to file a case against the Surigao City Emergency Rescue Services.

There were lapses in the patient’s safety

Reporters from GMA News showed CCTV footage of the incident to Dr. Arnold Roque, a Medical Officer for Jose Reyes Memorial Medical Center. He found that there were lapses when it came to the patient’s safety, adding that the stretcher should have side rails that can be raised, as well as a strap that will keep the patient in place while being transported.

Another expert, Jhun Tolentino, who is the EMT Deputy Admin for the Manila Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, said that the paramedics were too complacent; one of the paramedics simply pulled out the stretcher from within the ambulance without the assistance of the other paramedics. He added that the stretcher should be secured until all of the wheels are safely on the ground, to make sure that the patient stays safe and stable within the stretcher.
