Yakuza member stabbed 2 Pinoys in Yokohama, Japan

A Yakuza member stabbed 2 Filipino OFWs in Naka Ward, Yokohama, Japan. The 2 Filipinos were part of a group that the Yakuza member quarrelled with.

A member of the Yakuza gang called Inagawa-Kai, Japan’s third largest Yakuza group, was arrested for stabbing Filipino OFWs in Yokohama last year.

Taishi Hatekayama, 31, was arrested by police for allegedly stabbing two OFWs, aged 31 and 29 as well as two other people.

According to reports, the injured persons were part of a group of 10 Filipinos that a restaurant manager, Junpei Saito had quarreled with.

Saito was also arrested for stabbing one of the victims during the altercation. He denies he participated in the event while Hatekayama maintains that he did not intend to kill any of the victims when he attacked them with a kitchen knife. Hatekayama was charged with attempted murder.

  • Be aware. Always be aware of what’s happening around you, especially if you’re alone. This is important to teach your children so that they will be extra careful on their own.
  • Be smart. Don’t act careless or seem like you’re an easy target. Walk confidently, and be smart about the people around you. If you think someone’s following you, call for help.
  • Plan ahead. Talk to your kids about what they should do if they’re faced with an emergency. It’s important for them to always have a plan in case of any untoward incident so that they can keep themselves safe even without you.
  • Go to a trusted person. In case someone’s following your kid, teach them to go to someone that they can trust. It can be a friend, relative, or even a police officer or a teacher.  It’s also good if they have a mobile phone with them so they can contact you immediately.
