Zsa Zsa Padilla gets emotional remembering Dolphy and their dream for daughter Zia

Zsa Zsa Padilla gets emotional remembering Dolphy and their dream for daughter Zia

The veteran singer opens up about how her late husband Comedy icon Dolphy wanted to see their youngest Zia grow up to be just like her.

She may be the daughter of an award winning singer and iconic actor, but 26-year old Zia Quizon is making a name for herself in the entertainment industry. Her mom Zsa Zsa couldn’t be happier.

In an interview on Magandang Buhay, Zsa Zsa couldn’t help but get emotional remembering a conversation she had with her late husband Dolphy, who told her he wants Zia to grow up looking just like her.

“You are so filled with talent. Napakabait nito (She is so kind),” she told the show’s hosts when asked to give a message to her youngest daughter. “Sana mas makita pa kita sa entablado na kumakanta. (I hope I see her on stage singing more often).

“I told her one touching moment, ‘You know when you were singing, there’s a moment na naalala ko na sinabi ko kay Dolphy (there’s a moment that I remembered telling Dolphy), ‘I want our child to look exactly like you.’ Because siyempre ‘yung age difference namin is 36 years, alam ko na mauuna siya sa akin. (Because of course our age difference is 36 years, I knew he would pass before I did) So sabi ko, ‘Gusto ko kapag nakita ko ‘yung anak natin, makikita kita doon sa anak natin. (So I told him, I want to see you in our child every time I look at her.)'”

Talented just like her dad

Continuing, she recalled, “Noong kumakanta siya parang iba ‘yung feeling ko, parang bumukas ang langit, that’s just my expression (When she was singing it was like I felt strange, it’s like the heavens were opening up),” she added. “Pero naramdaman ko talaga na nandoon siya. Bigla kong sinabi na ‘Lovey (Dolphy), this is what we were talking about so many years ago. Tingnan mo, ito na nangyari na. So I’m so glad that whenever I look at Zia, I see your face.”

(But I really felt (Dolphy) was there. I suddenly said, Lovey this what we were talking about so many years ago. Look, it’s finally happening. So I’m so glad that whenever I look at Zia, I see your face.)

She also reiterated just how much she believes Zia inherited her one of a kind talent from her dad Dolphy.

“We love him so much and we miss him dearly,” she said in tears, recalling how she still feels his presence to this day–five years since his passing.

Moving on and looking forward to the future

“We just moved on with our lives no matter what but ‘yun talagang naging especial sa buhay natin, nararamdaman ko na he’s always with me ang daming beses talaga,” she shared. “Minsan nga weird and kuwento na ito pero nakikita ko pa talaga ang mukha niya, hindi lang kay Zia pero talagang ginagabayan pa din tayo sa palagay ko.”

(We just moved on with our lives no matter what but we really have this special experience, I often feel that he’s really always with me. Sometimes it’s weird to tell people this but I sometimes see his face, not just in Zia, but I really feel he still guides me.)

The proud mom also expressed her approval when asked about Zia’s relationship with Martin Nievera and Pops Fernandez’ eldest son, Robin, who’s also a singer/songwriter.

“He is well bred. At saka siyempre anak siya ng mga kaibigan,” Zsa Zsa said happily.

Zsa Zsa is currently in a relationship with architect Conrad Onglao and has another daughter with Dolphy named Nicole. She also has a daughter from a previous relationship, Karylle, who’s also a singer.
