After the Senate approved the Work from Home Bill in May 2017, another bill that would alter the workweek has been passed by the House of Representatives on its third and final reading.
House Bill 6152, also more popularly known as the 4-day-work week bill, seeks to provide companies and employees with the option to reduce the required number of work days from five to four, in an effort to provide flexibility, promote efficiency, and encourage work-life balance for both employers and employees.
The bill was originally filed by Baguio City Representative Mark Go, HB 5068. According to Rappler, the bill will be transmitted to the Senate immediately. Once it’s enacted into law, it will allow employers and employees to choose to work 12 hours a day for four days or maintain their normal schedule, which is normally 8 hours a day for 5 days.
“These arrangements give employers and employees flexibility in fixing hours of work compatible with business requirements and the employees’ need for a balanced work-life,” Go told CNN.
In addition, the new bill is pushing for at least 48 to 72 hours of rest even if the workweek is compressed to four days.
