According to reports, "Senators have rejected a proposal to legalize divorce in the Philippines despite surveys showing majority of Filipinos agreed to legalize ‘irreconcilably separated’ couples.”

Senator Serge Osmeña III, acting Senate minority leader Vicente Sotto III and Senator Ferdinand Marcos Jr. are a few of the many who believe that there is no reason for them to support the divorce legalization.

On the other hand, Senator Pia Cayetano said she is open to discuss the divorce law. Aside from Vatican City, the Philippines is the only country in the world that does not allow divorce.

Whether or not you are for the legalization of divorce in the Philippines, it is very important that couples look out for the following red flags.

1. The couple should not have married in the first place

1. The couple should not have married in the first place

Sometimes couples can iron out their incompatibilities. However, if they are not compatible on several levels and don’t work towards resolving these issues, a marriage can fail.

Negative personality traits in one person can make a long-term relationship unbearable and divorce possibility.

2. Expectation problems

2. Expectation problems

Couples head into marriage with certain expectations of each other. Sometimes if romantic or other expectations are not met, disillusionment can set in. Over time, unmet expectations can cause enough unhappiness to cause a married couple to drift apart and break up.
3. Abuse

3. Abuse

Physical and verbal abuse are all too often the causes of a marital break-down. Sexual and emotional abuse also fall into this category.

If an individual is constantly degrading their partner – physically, verbally, mentally or emotionally – this is highly likely to be a a reason why the marriage will fall apart.

4. Sex-less marriage

4. Sex-less marriage

The lack of sex or sexual fulfillment is an all too common problem that if not addressed can lead to marriage break-up.
5. Financial problems

5. Financial problems

Not making financial decisions together or one person over-spending can lead to unhappiness and finger-pointing. Also, the lack of open communication about money problems can disrupt a marriage more than the actual problem.
6. Lack of communication

6. Lack of communication

Men and women communicate differently. Not understanding each other’s communication styles or being unwilling to try and listen to what the other person has to say can be a big problem in many marriages.

A marriage without open, two-way communication most likely won't last for long.

7. Cheating

7. Cheating

Infidelity can signal the end of many marriages. Of course, there are many reasons why a spouse may cheat in the first place and often, it is due a combination some or all of the reasons previously mentioned.
