Abandoned baby dies in Laguna mall restroom

Abandoned baby dies in Laguna mall restroom

The newborn baby was found in a trash bin of a rest room by one of the mall's janitors. Get more details on the story, here.

According to GMA’s Balitanghali, a newborn baby passed away after being left in a trash bin inside a mall restroom in Laguna.

The abandoned baby was reportedly found by a janitor over the weekend of December 3 to 4 with the placenta and umbilical cord still attached to the infant.

After being reported to authorities, rescuers reported to the scene and rushed the baby to the nearest hospital. Sadly, the infant, who still had a pulse when rescued, didn’t survive.

Currently, local police are combing through CCTV footage in order to identify the mother of the abandoned baby

Currently, local police are combing through CCTV footage in order to identify the mother of the abandoned baby.

Around the same time last year, a pair of twins were found in a shoebox outside a sari-sari store in Magdalena, Laguna, which is a town about two hours away from Calamba.

GMA’s 24 Oras reported that residents suspected that the box was a bomb when the woman who left it there didn’t come back for it, like she said she would. But when they peeked into the box, they were startle to find a baby’s hand poking out.

“Tinignan kung ano ang laman. Akala nga raw nila bomba. Iyong binuklat ang kahon na ganoon, nakita kamay noong baby, Nagulat sila, baby pala laman,” Shirley Corbite, social welfare officer, told GMA News. The twin boys were then brought to a nearby health center for treatment.

“Noong makita namin iyong baby medyo may blood pa siya eh. Pero okay naman humihinga pa siya kaya lang hindi siya umiiyak noong makita namin… Ang haba haba pa ng cord pa eh. As in bagong panganak pa lang iyong mga babies,” said public health nurse Eva Predilla.

They were then brought to the Laguna Medical Center in Sta. Cruz, Laguna. “Inihihingi namin ng gatas sa ibang nanay para maka-survive iyong dalawang babies kasi parang gusto nilang mabuhay,” confided Predilla about the way they are caring for the babies, who were born weighing a little over a kilo each. The local government has taken on the responsibility of caring for the newborns.
