Alex Gonzaga on miscarriage: "Everyday we were clinging on to a miracle that an embryo would still appear"

Alex Gonzaga finally breaks silence and shares the heartbreaking story of her miscarriage.

In this article, you’ll read:

  • Details of Alex Gonzaga’s pregnancy and miscarriage
  • How to support women who suffered a miscarriage

Alex Gonzaga confirms miscarriage

For anyone who dreams to be a mother, a positive pregnancy test is the best news you can ever receive.

Actress and Youtube vlogger Alex Gonzaga has always been vocal about planning a family with her husband, politician Mikee Morada. It came to no surprise that a few weeks ago, there have already been speculations that the celebrity was on the family way.

Unfortunately, earlier today, Alex shared the devastating news in her social media accounts that she lost the baby. According to the vlogger, the miscarriage was due to an anembryonic pregnancy or blighted ovum.

“Hi. 2 months ago we found out that I was pregnant and 3 weeks ago, we got a heartbreaking news that we might be having an anembryonic pregnancy (blighted ovum).”

According to Mayo Clinic, anembryonic pregnancy occurs “when an early embryo never develops or stops developing.” It usually occurs early in pregnancy and may cause a positive pregnancy test or missed menstrual period.

A woman experiencing this condition may experience pregnancy symptoms such as nausea, vomiting, and breast tenderness. These symptoms will subside when the embryo stops growing and fails to implant, which is also a sign that the pregnancy had ended.

Though already aware of her condition, Alex was advised by her doctor to let the pregnancy take its natural course.

“The waiting and praying tested our faith and there were a lot of crying. Everyday we were clinging on to a miracle that an embryo would still appear but last Tuesday (October 12), the Lord’s will prevailed and we finally closed the book of our first pregnancy”, said Alex.

Although she initially wanted to keep things private, Alex and Mikee decided to share their pregnancy loss story to others, especially to those who have been through the same experience.

“We share our story to give hope that in the midst of this pain and loss the Lord will always sustain you. To any couple who’s going through this or who might go through this pain, don’t ever lose hope. It’s not your fault this happened. At your own pace you can start to grieve and heal.

“Mikee and I held on to our Lord Jesus to prepare and help us accept our situation. He blessed us with a kind of LOVE that is ready to understand. We know that in His perfect time He will bless us with our ultimate desire.”

Alex also gave a message to their angel baby: “To our baby whom we almost had, thank you for giving mommy and daddy joy even for a short span. Lastly, thank you to everyone who gave us time to heal 💔“

After finally announcing her marriage to politician and businessman Mikee Morada last November, their fans and supporters have expressed their wish for Alex to be pregnant and have her own baby.

Early 2021 when some news outlets and vlogs online speculated about Alex’s pregnancy, but Alex outright denied them.

In the second quarter of the year, the news that Alex is pregnant resurfaced again. But the couple did not address the issue.

Last October 10, Mikee called out veteran showbiz host and talent manager Lolit Solis for spreading rumors about Alex’s alleged suspected miscarriage. On Instagram, Solis stated that she heard Alex had a miscarriage and the family plans to announce it through her vlog.

“Hindi lang patungkol kay Alex ang inyong sinulat, tungkol ito sa amin mag-asawa,” he said. “Kaya hinihingi ko ang inyong pag-respeto. Huwag po kayong gumawa ng kwento sa ganitong klaseng sitwasyon lalo’t hindi niyo naman alam ang totoong pangyayari. Salamat.”

However, just tonight, Alex confirmed she had indeed suffered from a miscarriage.

How to support women who had a miscarriage

To be quite honest, no words would suffice to comfort a woman who just lost her child. She may look okay on the outside but feels agonizing pain on the inside.

As much as you want your friend who suffered from a miscarriage to feel better, the truth is it’s a process. However, a healthy support system made of family members, friends, and health professionals can help support women affected by miscarriage. What you say or do not say and more importantly, can have a lasting impact on the grieving woman’s feelings and mental health.

Here are some things that you can say (or not say) to a mother who just suffered a miscarriage.

  • Acknowledge her loss. Sometimes, simply saying “I’m sorry about your miscarriage,” speaks volumes.
  • Listen and let them grieve. It’s okay if you don’t have any advice towards the end. What’s important is you were willing to listen.
  • Avoid saying cliched comments like, “It wasn’t meant to be,” or “You’ll get pregnant again.” Those words might appear insensitive, and dismissive of the loss they just had. If you don’t know what to say, just say exactly that. “I don’t know what to say.” Better yet, don’t say anything and just offer support in other ways.
  • Encourage them to talk to other women. Knowing that they’re not alone and that someone understands what they’re going through can be helpful to them.

To help women who just had a miscarriage deal with their loss, we have just launched a Healing Mode on our app. This aims to help parents who have unfortunately experienced loss of their child. Its features include daily milestones, critical information, words of encouragement, and checklists for moms who are on their way towards healing and recovery.
