Who would have known that a simple shoebox can be the start of an amazing love story?
She found him on Facebook
When Tyrel Wolfe, or Ty as his friends and family call him, was just 7 years old, he sent out shoeboxes filled with various school supplies, toiletries, and toys to other kids around the world through a humanitarian organization called Samaritan’s Purse.
One of the kids who received Ty’s shoeboxes was a little Filipina girl named Joana Marchan, who, after 11 years, attempted to find her kind benefactor to thank him for his generosity.
She found him on Facebook by looking up the name written behind his photo that was also included in the shoebox, and when she found him, she added him as a friend.
She said, “The shoebox had a big impact in my life and in my family and I want to thank him so I try finding him on Facebook.”
Joana thanked him for his wonderful gift, end eventually, their friendship grew. They found out that they had a lot of things in common, especially when it came to their faith, and they grew much more closer to each other because of that.
Both of them knew that they were destined for each other
Tyrel decided to save up so that he can visit Joana here in the Philippines. And after a year, he finally went and visited Joana.
Both of them immediately knew right then and there that they were destined to be together.
Joana shares, “Once I saw his face, an amazing feeling came over me, I was so happy I cried.”
“All I knew was Joana was the one,” Ty added.
He only stayed for 10 days in the Philippines during his first time, but in about a year’s time, he came back, this time to ask for her hand in marriage.
In 2014, the couple finally got married, and now, in 2017, the sweet couple now have a family of their own!
“Happy 24th birthday to this rare gift from God! Proud of watching you grow into the man, husband, and father you are today,” Joana wrote to celebrate her beloved husband’s birthday.
Such an amazing love story, and all of it started because of a simple shoebox. God really does work in mysterious ways!
