APEC delegates wore the traditional barong - and nailed it!

2 min read

We know you’ve been waiting to see our favorite world leaders-slash-dads over at the Asia Pacific Economic Conference 2015 put on the barong designed by Paul Cabral.

Obama, Trudeau and Nieto

The fit and embroidery were unique for each world leader, and creator Paul Cabral made sure to sew unique designs that were relevant to the wearers’ countries.

Let’s start with US President Barack Obama, who looked even more handsome than usual.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau couldn’t get any more dreamy, right? Wrong. So very wrong.

Sound off, Team Nieto, because your Papi looks fine in his couture barong.

Pineapple shirt takes center stage

Dubbed “the pineapple shirt” by the international community, the barong is made from pounded pineapple leaves dried into a fine thread.

But for these luxury barongs, Cabral wove a silk blend into the pineapple fibers, and even slipped in more silk along the collar, so world leaders wouldn’t experience that familiar barong itch that our husbands often complained about.

Why were they in barong?

It has been an APEC tradition to dress the world leaders in the host country’s traditional attire, ever since former US President Bill Clinton gave them bomber jackets. Other APEC world leader attires have been quite amusing, but our barong makes everyone look quite dashing, don’t you think?
