7 Best new hairstyles for the dashing dad

For most dads, a trip to the barber shop means getting the same ol’ cut that takes less than 10 minutes to achieve.

But many dads are finding time to explore their own sense of style.

Choosing the best cut for your hair type and personal preference involves knowing the texture and behavior of your hair.

Not sure what to tell your barber on your next visit?

Choose from these simple hairstyles that are trendy but easy to pull off!

Short and choppy like Brad Pitt

Remember: Keep the sides an inch short. This style is best cut using scissors and a comb. Tell your barber to keep some length on top.

How to keep it looking good? Apply a pomade after you wash your hair using a back-and-forth motion with both hands.

Mess it up a bit: push the hair to one side; it’s alright if it looks undone.

Bangs like Ewan Mcgregor

This style will also require that the sides of your hair be kept an inch short. The only difference is keeping your bangs long.

Use a matte paste to style it daily. With a raking motion, comb through it between your fingers from roots to tips; this adds texture.

Let the bangs fall slightly over your face for a more relaxed look.

Wavy or curly like Simon Baker

If you have naturally wavy or curly hair, it’s important to remember to tell your barber or stylist to cut your hair once it’s dry because curly hair appears longer when wet; this might cause them chop off more than is needed.

To style it at home, apply a cream while it’s still wet; this adds definition to the curls.

If it’s extra poofy, a texturing salt spray can keep it in check. Remember to air dry and not run your fingers through it too much because this will make it more frizzy.

Mid-fade like Michael B. Jordan

This low-maintenance look may vary in length or thickness. It’s best to choose a style—with the help of your barber—which frames your face well.

This requires excellent skill using an electric razor.

Finger-through like Christian Bale

The key to this look is keeping it long on top and a bit on the back while the sides are cut just so they lay slightly over the ears.

The length is what makes this style look effortless and relaxed.

Style it using a cream while your hair is still damp. You can also blow-dry it to add fullness and then apply paste to the top and sides to hold it in place.

Experimenter like Zayn Malik

This edgy look works best when styled to look undone. Ask your barber or stylist to shave the sides and keep about 4 inches of length on top.

Since this cut is jagged and textured, a razor may be needed to cut it.

To keep the volume of this particular hairstyle, use dry shampoo or texturing spray. Rough it up a bit by applying a bit of matte paste on the ends.

Young hollywood like Ryan Gosling

Keep the sides half an inch short and clean around the back and the sides of the ears. For height needed to style it, keep about two inches on top.

The key to this look is keeping it clean and classic. Apply cream from the front to the back and use a comb to part it cleanly to one side.

Take the comb again and start from the front, lifting it up to add height and volume.

The key to this natural look--as with all the hairstyles on this list--is to have fun with it!
