It’s the Lunar New Year once again! Are you ready to spend the Chinese New Year 2018 with the family? If you don’t have plans yet, here’s what you can do!

The Chinese New Year, also called the Spring Festival in China, is celebrated by members of the Chinese community all over the globe. It traditionally happens on the 23rd day of the 12th lunar month of the Chinese calendar; or during the new moon between the 21st of January and the 20th of February. The festival goes on for around 23 days, ending on the 15th day of the first lunar month of that year.

In the Philippines, the Chinese New Year is also celebrated in commemoration of the friendship between the Chinese and Filipino, and their shared history here that spans centuries.

The sharing of these two cultures has created a rich subculture of the Filipino-Chinese. It’s so ingrained in the local culture and so widely celebrated that it has been mandated a regular holiday by the government.

Since the Chinese New Year 2018 falls on February 16th this Friday, why not try out these things to celebrate the new Lunar Year? And if not this Friday, the whole first month of the Lunar Year!

5 Ways You Celebrate the Chinese New Year 2018

1. Gather family and friends for some traditional and authentic Chinese food

3. Spend quality family time at PLAY in Okada Manila

This Chinese New Year 2018, spend time with your family at PLAY, or “Purposeful Learning and Activities for the Young, at Okada Manila. 4. Celebrate with fun activities and a fireworks display at the Uptown Mall in BGC

For the first month of the Lunar New Year, or the entire month of February, you can celebrate Chinese New Year 2018 at Uptown Mall in BGC, Taguig with everyone. They have various Chinese New Year-themed activities from forecasts/fortune-telling to photo booths, and ends with a vivid and thrilling fireworks showcase.

At 8:00 pm this Friday, February 16, Uptown Mall will be showcasing a wide array of fireworks in different colors for everyone to watch. What’s more, it’s a free event! And one that you cannot miss!

5. Enjoy a unique tikoy at home with the family

At the end of the day, the celebration of the Lunar New Year is all about spending time with our families. When you’re all home and rested, why not eat tikoy or sweet rice cake with the family? It’s the traditional sticky dish eaten during the Lunar New Year, symbolizing the (sticky) bond between family members eating together.
