WATCH: Dad shames breastfeeding shamers in a super creative way

One dad has had enough of breastfeeding shamers and so he decided to call them out. Watch how he did so in a super original way, here!

Meet Brock Smith–the dad who’s trying to single handedly put an end to breastfeeding shaming with funny and accurate breastfeeding video. In the video, which was shared on the popular Facebook page Breastfeeding Mama Talk, watch as the creative dad shames breastfeeding shamers by attempting to eat despite being covered in a small blanket.

“I wish I didn’t have to eat with a blanket over my head,” he said on camera.

With the 21-second clip, he manages to shed light on just how absurd it is when shaming moms for nursing in public.

The Florida-based dad told Breastfeeding Mama Talk that he and his wife have had enough of people who make moms feel nursing their child in public is something to be ashamed of. He believes that they’re the ones deserving of all the backlash.

“For people to be ignorant enough to harass a mother trying to have a normal life while breastfeeding a child just infuriates us,” he said.

Five days after it was shared, it had already gained over 140,000 views.

The 29-year-old dad originally shared it on his personal Facebook page accompanied by a caption peppered with sarcastic hashtags like: #lactatingnipplesareoffensive and #eatingunderablanketiscooliguess.

“As a dad and a husband… I’ve had enough of this asinine argument,” he wrote.

The now viral video was taken when Brock Smith went out to grab a bite with his wife Lauren and their two kids. When Lauren started to breastfeed their 2-month old daughter underneath a blanket, she started getting fussy.

“This evening was abnormally hot, and our daughter Everly was having a rough time latching to my wife because she was hot and uncomfortable under the cover,” he recounts to PEOPLE. “So my wife says, ‘Well Brock, would you like to eat underneath a blanket!?’ So, trying to find the fun in everything, I threw a blanket over my head for the rest of my meal and dessert.”

It was a spur of the moment thing and Lauren started filming. He then shared it on his facebook page with the intent of shedding light of how hard it is for women to breastfeed in public.

His awareness on the subject and disdain for breastfeeding shamers has been mostly based on what he’s learned while working with moms and moms-to-be in the fitness group, which he runs with his wife.

“[My wife] has never been shamed directly, but as her husband, I see the looks, and being in tune with my wife, I know she is uncomfortable with doing it publicly.”

“We hear horror stories all the time about the harassment and looks that they receive,” he shared. “[My wife] has never been shamed directly, but as her husband, I see the looks, and being in tune with my wife, I know she is uncomfortable with doing it publicly.”

The creative and funny dad is well aware that this is a serious issue that needs to be addressed. He hopes that, in his little way, he can inspire other husbands to take a stand against breastfeeding shamers as well.

“I want men to take away that our wives and partners need our support with nursing,” he urges. “My wife wants women to take away that there is a community of like-minded moms. Something that is so beautiful and natural has been tainted by society and over-sexualized media – and there is an obvious double-standard.”
