Did you know that your gynecologist can help boost your sex life?

2 min read

Your gynecologist can do a lot more for you than just check on your reproductive health. Gynecologists also deal with sexual health, so they can definitely help you if you have some issues regarding your sex life.

Here are just a few of the things that your OB-Gyn can help you out with:

Lack of sex drive

Gynecologists see this problem a lot, and it’s a pretty common issue among women.

A recent study that was published in the medical journal BMJ Open found that 34% of women reported losing an interest in sex for at least 3 months in the year. Over half of those women shared that they felt stressed about the loss of libido.

A lot of factors can cause women to lose their sex drive, including hormonal changes during your period. Testosterone levels (yes, women have testosterone) can also become a factor as to why women lose their sex drive, so your gynecologist can prescribe a cream with small amounts of testosterone to help boost your sex drive.

Vaginal dryness

Vaginal dryness commonly happens after menopause, when the estrogen levels start to diminish. However, 20% of women aged 18-50 can also experience vaginal dryness, so it’s not an issue that’s exclusive to menopausal women.

Your gynecologist can recommend you a lubricant that you can use for when you’re in the mood, but your body doesn’t want to cooperate. Some gynecologists can also recommend over-the-counter vaginal moisturizers that can be used to keep your vagina moisturized.

Some gynecologists can also prescribe estrogen pills, creams, or rings, which can help boost your estrogen levels in order to keep you moisturized.

Pain during sex

Pain during intercourse isn’t just uncomfortable, it can sometimes be a serious cause for concern.

Sometimes, pain during sex can be caused by an STD, which commonly happens when your partner enters you.

In other cases, there’s also internal pain, which can be caused by uterine fibroids, or growths inside the uterus. For the most part, these growths are harmless, but they do interfere with your sex life.

Endometriosis, or when the uterine lining moves into the pelvic cavity, can also be responsible for causing pain during sex, and it’s something that your gynecologist can help treat.

So don’t be afraid to talk to your gynecologist if you’re having some sexual problems!
