Do's and don'ts when it comes to your baby's naps!

3 min read

Your little one's naptime isn't just a time for them to relax and get refreshed, it's also a time for you to get some rest or finally get to do the housework!

However, before you let your baby take their nap, make sure to know these do's and don'ts when it comes to your baby's naps!

1. Make sure you know when your child is sleepy

It's important to know your child's sleeping habits since it makes taking naps that much easier.

If possible, try and teach your child to take naps on a regular schedule since it helps them get some much-needed rest.

2. Don't wake your baby up

If your child fell asleep during the car ride, it would be best to not wake them up just yet if you get home. It's important that they're able to get a long nap so that they can get rest. And babies do need a lot of rest!

3. Babies do need a lot of sleep

Speaking of sleep, babies need A LOT of sleep. During your baby's first few months, they'll be asleep for most of the day, but as they grow older, they sleep less.

So make sure that while your baby is young, they get enough sleep.

4. Don't let them take short and frequent naps

For busy parents, it can be really tempting to let your child take short and frequent naps in between errands.

However, your little one needs to take less frequent but longer naps since it would allow them to get some rest.

5. Do teach your child to fall asleep on their own

A lot of babies tend to fall asleep right after feeding. While it's a good way to make sure your baby takes their nap, it's better if you can teach them to fall asleep on their own instead of needing to drink their milk.

That way, they can take a nap whenever they feel sleepy, and not just after they eat.

6. Do encourage your child to take longer naps

If your baby is already 6 months or older, it would be best if they can take longer 1-2 hour naps instead of short 20-minute naps. That way, they can have better sleep at night.

7. Do set a routine for your baby

Routines are important not just for your peace of mind, but also to help make sure your baby gets enough rest. Make sure to be consistent with your routine, and create a sleep schedule for your child so that they can have a proper bedtime routine.

8. Make sure your child sleeps safe

Lastly, it's best to make sure your child sleeps safe. For babies, it's important to not let your baby sleep with any stuffed toys or any pillows inside their crib. That way, you can significantly reduce the chance of SIDS.

Your child's crib should be a soft yet firm mattress, and the bed sheet should be snug.
