Meanwhile, Luis described “Tita Pie,” which is what most people in Philippine showbiz call the veteran actress, as “one of the kindest people in the industry.”
At the start of the interview, it’s obvious that Edu and Cherry Pie are a lighthearted couple who loves to laugh. Edu, the natural charmer, has a lot of antics that are sure to make his ladylove beam with joy.
Luis even teased the couple, who both came to the interview wearing a blue shirt, as the hottest loveteam in showbiz right now.
“Ngayon pa lang, kung hindi ako nagkakamali, kinancel na ang kontrata ng ibang loveteam ng ABS-CBN,” he joked.
Even the host, who is so happy to see his dad very happy in his new relationship, swoons when he sees how Cherry Pie takes care of his dad.
“In fairness, kinikilig ako sa inyo. I swear. Pati si Howhow,” said Luis, referring to Howhow, his term of endearment for wife Jessy Mendiola.

While it’s probably new to everyone around to see Edu ad Cherry Pie as a couple in real life (they worked in so many projects together), the couple revealed that they actually dated for almost a year two decades ago.
And although their relationship didn’t work out the first time, Edu and Cherry Pie never drifted apart and remained friends throughout the years.
“We knew that we still liked each other,” said Edu.
“Hindi niya ako makalimutan,” it was Cherry Pie’s turn to tease her beau.

Luis also revealed from talking with his dad and Cherry Pie that there would be times when the timing was off. It’s either Edu was in a relationship or Cherry Pie was in a relationship. So when time came for them to work together again this year, there were no expectations that a romance would be blooming.
“Noong nagkatrabaho kami sa ‘Marry You, Marry Me,” wala namang expectations,” shared Edu.
But fate took a beautiful turn and brought them together again as off-screen lovers this time around.

A refreshingly lighthearted relationship
While most couples in their later years would be engaged in serious matters, Edu and Cherry Pie were like a breath of fresh air during their interview. It’s obvious that they are very comfortable with each other.
When Luis asked what their favorite thing to do together was, they both answered, “Magkulitan.”

Edu jokes about how relaxed his girlfriend is while driving dangerously, while Cherry Pie candidly quips,
“Pagkagising mo pa lang sa umaga, tumatawa ka na.”
But on a serious note, Cherry Pie says that what she liked about Edu was that he was a good man.
“His world revolves around his children,” she said.
This is something that she admired, and a trait that she shared with him.
“I am, first and foremost, a mom,” added the actress.
Edu has three kids who are all grown up – Luis, Enzo and Addie. Meanwhile, Cherry Pie has a son, Nio, who is 19.
Despite being very OC, Edu shares that Cherry Pie is someone who really sticks to her principles, and is very caring and thoughtful as a person.

“Ganoon talaga siya, maalaga. Mahilig magpakita ng pagmamahal.”
When asked for love advice, Edu admitted that he is not the best person to ask. ButCherry pie has this to say:
“Seize the moment. Enjoy the moment. Always put God in the center of your relationship. And accept each other before anything else.”
And since they’ve been friends for a long time before they decided to enter a relationship again, Edu says,
We know what’s best for each other without having to say so.”
No flowery words, but the way they look at each other speaks volumes and affirms that their hearts are in the right place.
Cheers to you, Edu and Cherry Pie!
