10 Funny things kids often hear at a Pinoy family reunion

2 min read

Though they mean well, Filipino relatives can say the funniest things when talking to kids of all ages. Here are some of our favorites!

1. Ay, ang laki-laki mo na!

They may be commenting on a kid’s sudden growth spurt, but what they’re really saying is seeing them grow up makes them feel older.

2. Kaninong anak ka na nga ulit?

Even if a kids’ parents is a close relative, they often forget whose kid is whose.

3. Mag-mano ka nga

Of course, kids should not forget to show their respect through pagmamano.

4. Sing/dance nga for tito/tita

No Pinoy family reunion would be complete without supportive titos and titas encouraging kids to showcase their talents! Also, karaoke!

5. Honor student yan!

They can’t contain their pride when a son, daughter, or pamangkin does well in school and they want the world to know.

6. Parang ang lusog lusog mo

Lambing comments about weight gain isn’t reserved for older relatives, even kids can  be at the receiving end of it.

7. Pumapayat ka ata ha?

In the same way, older relatives can’t contain their worry when they see that kids are losing weight before offering platefuls of food thinking that it’ll instantly correct this.

8. Study hard like your ate/kuya.

Well-meaning older relatives sometimes can’t help but compare cousins with one another.

9. During my time, wala pa kaming….

Don’t try to argue, everything was better during their time. There was no Google, so they had to hit the library. They also didn’t have internet so they actually went outdoors to play and engaged in hobbies that didn’t involve gadget use.

10. Kaka-computer mo ata yan!

When kids are often distracted or inattentive, what’s to blame? Their excessive computer and gadget use, of course.
