An open letter to the husband who is about to cheat

An open letter to the husband who is about to cheat

You are faced with a choice. I hope you choose to keep loving her and staying true to the vow you made, even when it hurts.

To the husband who is about to cheat,

If you are reading this then you are most likely toying with the idea of straying or fantasizing about someone else as more desirable than your wife. Maybe the temptation is becoming so overwhelming that you feel like you don’t have a choice, that you are weak.

I want you to stop right there.

The temptation to be unfaithful can be unexpected, but when it happens, you have a choice. Remember that you always have a choice. Things don’t “just happen.” No one cheats by accident. Even if others claim they didn’t mean to, any act of unfaithfulness is deliberate.

Be aware of your actions. Even the tiniest things—flirting with a co-worker or could easily lead to something more.

Even flirting through text is considered emotional cheating. It means you are investing your thoughts and emotions into wanting someone else, or wanting that someone to want you back. It is not harmless. In fact, it is the seemingly “harmless” gestures you should watch out for.

I urge you to think twice before breaking the vow you made to your wife…

I urge you to think twice before breaking the vow you made to your wife. Your wife who tirelessly works hard and cares for you and your kids. Your wife who always goes out of her way to make sure her family is happy and healthy.

Think of all the years you have been together, all that you have overcome as a couple. Why would you trade it all for momentary pleasure?

Perhaps you have unmet needs. But it is not fair to blame this on your wife. It takes two, after all. Communicate with her first. Let her know how you feel. Work towards closeness and openness once more.

Don’t isolate yourself from her because this will only make the temptation greater. I hope you find the strength not to succumb to temptation. I hope you find that loving and sacrifice are key ingredients to marriage.
