Last December 3, Jessy Mendiola turned 28 years old. To celebrate, the actress, together with boyfriend Luis Manzano, celebrated her birthday in Amanpulo, a luxury beach resort in Palawan.

While the couple was on vacation, Luis finally popped the question and the beautiful señorita Jessy, said YES!
In previous interviews, Luis openly said that he was ready to settle down and get married. He was also vocal in saying that Jessy was the one for him. When asked why wedding bells were still not ringing, he explained that Jessy still wanted to achieve her goals and focus on her career—something that Luis was fully supportive of.

Jessy Mendiola had taping in Quezon City for a show on the day of Luis’s birthday party. Luis invited her to his celebration.
“Morning pa lang nagte-text na siya,” she narrated in an interview with Magandang Buhay. “Sabi ko, ‘Ita-try ko ha kasi hindi ko pa alam kung maaga ako mapa-pack-up. Buong araw siyang tawag nang tawag, siguro every two hours siyang tumatawag.”
Luis admitted that he was insistent on Jessyo going because he liked her.
“Gusto ko na siya. Pero kumbaga nasa basic level na siya ng attraction pero ‘yong emotional investment, wala pa masyado.”
Luckily, Jessy decided to attend the party because it was there that they got to know each other better. They were so engrossed with their conversation that they didn’t realize that it was already 3 a.m.
“Doon namin nakilala ‘yong isa’t isa… Kasi ang nakikita lang natin kay Luis ‘yong laging nagpapatawa, nangungulit, ‘yong very malikot pero nung kinausap ko na siya, seryoso din pala siya. Tapos pag may gusto kang pag-usapan, pinapakinggan ka rin naman talaga niya. Kaya siya naging iba sa paningin ko.”
In spite of getting along well, Jessy was wary about getting into a relationship.
“Natatakot ako noong time na ‘yon na makipag-date, magkaroon ng issue. Hindi ko siya pinapansin no’n. Bilang kaibigan lang talaga.”
Although his chances seemed bleak, Luis didn’t give up “because she’s worth it.”
The couple’s relationship has weathered many storms, but the two have kept to their promise to each other of being each other’s source of strength in times when they feel weak.
“I promise to love you from this day to that very, very special day na we get to say two words, and so much more after that,” Luis told Jessy.
