J.R. Smith, a player from the Cleveland Cavaliers, became very emotional during a postgame interview after their win against the Golden State Warriors, wherein he talks about his family, and more importantly, how his father played such an important role in his life.
When asked if he ever thought that he was going to get to that point in his NBA career, Smith responded with:
“I thought about it a lot honestly, getting to this point; the more my career went on, it kinda dwindled, and it was more about just playing the game. I’ve been playing this game fortunately for me since I was 3 years old. That’s one of the reasons why this game is so special to me and today is so special to me because it’s on Father’s day. My dad put the ball in my crib and…”
Smith was then overcome with emotion. He thanked his family for always being there for him throughout his life and his entire NBA career. Smith’s father can also be seen being very emotional during the interview.
The Cleveland Cavaliers just won their very first NBA title, beating the previous champions, the Golden State Warriors.
