26-year-old actor Aljur Abrenica has revealed, in an interview with PEP, that he proposed to Kylie long before pregnancy rumors started swirling.
“Para mas malinaw lang, ikukuwento ko, kasi ngayon lang kami kasi nagkaroon ng chance na mag-usap, e. Kailangan ko na siyang sabihin para malinaw,” he emphasized. “Ang engagement, nangyari before pa na nagkaroon ng mga rumors about the pregnancy.”
The first proposal
When they rekindled their romance in 2016 after two years of being apart, Aljur says they were both so thrilled that they planned a Japan trip.
While there, they had a fabulous time seeing the sights, but Tokyo Disney Sea was the setting for a special highlight of their trip.
According to Kylie, they were near the Little Mermaid statue when she started gushing about her favorite Disney princess.
“Ipinapakita ko sa kanya na, ‘Ito si Ariel, favorite ko siya. Dahil sa kanya, gusto ko maging mermaid.'” recalled Kylie. “Tapos, habang nagsasalita ako, nakatalikod ako sa kanya, akala ko nakikinig siya, hindi pala. Gusto na niya mag-propose.”
It was there that, she recalled, that Aljur first popped the question.

They decided to move in together after their Japan trip
When they came home to the Philippines, they decided to move in together.
“Para makita namin kung compatible kami sa isa’t isa. Kasi ayokong magaya sa ibang artists, pasintabi sa kanila, after a couple of years after nilang ipakasal, naghihiwalay,” explained Aljur, adding that they made the decision in an effort to be practical.
“And then, that’s the time na naramdaman ko ulit na kailangan ko mag-propose ulit. Nag-propose ulit ako sa kanya,” recounts the 26-year-old actor. “Meron akong nakitang bakal na may plastic na kulay green, prinipare ko talaga para alam nila.”
A month before their confirmation, Kylie had posted a photo of the makeshift ring on Instagram.

How they found out they were expecting
Despite how romantic the spur-of-the-moment proposals were, Aljur admits he wanted to give Kylie a real ring, to make her proud of him especially since his showbiz career isn’t what it used to be.
Kylie, who turned 24 shortly after Aljur’s last proposal, admits it took a while before it all sunk in.
So they were living together under the same roof when Kylie first had an inkling that she might be pregnant. “Actually, before the pregnancy test, alam ko na,” she clarified. “Kasi very aware ako sa katawan ko.”
To further confirm it, they went to St. Luke’s for an OB Check-up.
“Ayun ang nakakatuwa kasi… masaya, kasi blessing yun, e. Sino ba naman ang hindi sasaya na nagkaroon ka ng anak, bilang isang lalaki, sa babaeng mahal na mahal mo?” said Aljur, adding that he never dated anyone else in the time they were broken up.
He believes their time apart was mainly for them to grow and mature.

How did Kylie’s dad Robin Padilla React?
As for how her dad Robin Padilla took the news, Kylie shared to PEP how she told him over dinner.
“Tapos, yun, nagtatanong na siya kung gusto ko na bang mag-asawa, kasi may nagsabi na yata sa kanya na engaged na kami, e. Tapos, sabi ko, ‘Uhm, I’m ready myself, Pa.’ So, nagkuwento na siya about that, about getting married. Tapos, biglang sabi ko, ‘Pa, may sasabihin pa ako sa ‘yo.’”
He apparently answered, laughing: “Ano yun, anak? Buntis ka, ‘no? Tumawa lang siya. Sabi ko, ‘Ang galing mo dun.’” recalled Kylie. “Tapos, ayun na, ipinakita ko sa kanya yung scan nung bata, kasi kita na yung ilong, e. Sabi niya, ‘O, anak, ha, alagaan mo ‘yan.’”
