When the last episode of the hit ABS-CBN morning drama ‘Ningning’ aired on January 15, 2016, our days lost a little sunshine.
The loveable protagonist of the long-running show filled our TVs for six months with inspiring life lessons which were truly memorable.
Let’s take a look back at the great lessons ‘Ningning’ taught kids and parents alike.
Love your family
When her mother Lovely passed away, Ningning and her dad drew strength from one another; they both kept each other strong.
The show centers on the love of a father and daughter and how this love helped them overcome all of the obstacles thrown their way.
When their home and boat were destroyed by a typhoon, they bravely left their hometown, Isla Baybay, to move to the city to start over.
Her catchphrase quickly became ‘Tindog Lang!’, a Cebuano phrase which means to stand up and stay strong!
Stay positive, even if no one else does
Even when she discovered she was losing her eyesight; she faced it bravely, with a charming smile on her face.
She not only stayed optimistic and hopeful; she continuously inspired others to do the same.
Bullies need love, too
Ningning and her best friend Mac-Mac weren’t always close.
In fact, Mac-Mac used to bully her. But Ningning continued being there for him despite this, lending a helping hand until they became the best of friends.
When Ningning began losing her eyesight, Mac-Mac was one of those who faithfully took care of her and did not leave her side.
Forgive those who hurt you
Mac-mac’s dad Johnny were both heartbroken when Mac-mac’s mom Alicia abandoned them.
But when she returned, they welcomed her with open arms, forgiving her completely.
Be creative and resourceful
Ningning’s dad Dondon faced the challenge of providing for their family while trying to finish his studies.
He worked as a waiter while but he was involved in several other ‘sidelines’.
Because of his hard work, he was eventually able to put up his own successful business.
This showed kids that they must work hard to achieve their dreams.
Above all, remain thankful
Ningning’s faith in God was such an inspiration. Throughout all the trials and the hardships, she remained grateful.
When the time came for them to go back home to Isla Baybay, she did not forget to thank all the friends who helped them while living in the city.
She and Mac-mac also wrote a sweet ‘Thank you’ card to their teacher Hope for patiently teaching them.
They showed that being thankful in words and actions is so important.
Because as you grow up, and even when you’re an adult, you will always need a friend to help you along the way.
