A mother killed her 7-year-old son and her 3-year-old daughter while they were asleep. The motive? She didn’t want her husband getting custody of their kids after their divorce.
She called 911 after she killed her kids
The children were stabbed by their mother, Brandi Worley. She then proceeded to call 911 to tell them that she had killed her kids, and stabbed herself in the neck.
Jason Worley, the children’s father was reportedly sleeping in the basement of the home, oblivious to what was happening upstairs. According to reports, the couple had filed for divorce the day before the murder.
Court documents also said that the murder was possibly motivated by Brandi’s fear of losing her kids and the stress of a pending divorce.
Tyler, 7, and Charlee, 3, were both found in Charlee’s bedroom with stab wounds to their necks. Brandi had told the police, “I did not want him to take my kids, I just wanted to die with them.”

Based on a statement from Jason, he was awakened when he heard Brandi’s mother screaming. When he went up to check on what happened, Brandi had told him, “now you can’t take the kids from me.”
The death of the siblings was a crippling blow to the small community of Darlington, Indiana.
One of their neighbors, Cecil Haworth, had said that he always looked forward to getting a hug from Charlee and Tyler every morning; he also kept their favorite treat, popsicles in his home.
He adds that he even helped the kids make their mother a birthday card a few days before they were killed.

Coping with separation or divorce
Let’s get real for a second, relationships aren’t easy. While some couples work out their problems and stay together, for others, it’s not as simple as that. The harsh reality is that people get separated, and others file for divorce.
Going through a separation or divorce can get pretty rough since the people going through it have a lot of mixed and intense emotions. In order to help someone going through a separation, we came up with these tips:
- Understand what happened. A lot of people going through a divorce ask themselves questions, such as “what happened?”, “whose fault is it?”, and “what went wrong?” It’s normal to ask these questions, but don’t dwell on them. Take a more constructive approach and try to understand what really happened.
- Talk about it with someone you trust. Don’t keep your feelings to yourself, talk to someone you trust and share your feelings. Talking it out helps you cope better with your situation and will help make you feel better.
- Keep a routine. Don’t try and change things in your life too much. Keeping a routine should help keep you secure and feel more in control of your life.
- Don’t push people away. At this time, you’ll feel like you just want to be alone, but you should try to still go out and socialize with people. Being with people helps you cope better with your feelings and it helps keep you away from depression.
- Keep yourself busy. Take up a new hobby, or focus on your work. Keeping yourself busy keeps your mind away from sad thoughts and stops you from focusing on your problems too much.
- Take it one day at a time. There’s no need to rush things. It’s okay to feel anxious, sad or depressed about your situation. Don’t feel like you should instantly be okay, just take things one day at a time.
- Plan for your kids’ future. If you have kids, it’s very important that you try and focus on them first. Talk about who gets custody, and how your arrangement with your kids will be.
- Talk to your kids about it. You’ll also have to talk about your separation with your kids and be sure to make them understand that its not their fault. Be honest with them, but don’t insult or tell them harsh words about your spouse. Always be sure to still be a part of their lives.
