“Kawawa naman mga bata”
At around 4:20 AM on Thursday, July 27, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte made an announcement on social media that classes in Quezon City will not be suspended amidst the heavy rains throughout the Metro.
However, this decision was met with disappointment and even anger from some netizens who were concerned about the well-being of their children.
One netizen shares his annoyance in his post below:
Another netizen said “kawawa naman mga bata” regarding the announcement that classes will not be suspended.
“I welcome all the hate and the vileness of your messages”
In a post made after the backlash of comments, Vice Mayor Joy Belmonte admitted that she could have done some more research and asked more questions so she could have made an informed decision regarding the suspension of classes.
In her lengthy Facebook post, she shares, ” I bow to you and I admit to my weaknesses and shortcomings in this situation. Now it is time to make amends to our children and their parents. It’s time to step up for them. They deserve much better than me. They deserve a better leader.”
Despite Quezon City’s decision not to suspend classes, most of Metro Manila and the surrounding provinces have announced a suspension due to strong rains and heavy flooding caused by Tropical Storm Gorio.
