8 kiddie must-haves for the typhoon season

Rainy Day Essentials

Rainy Day Essentials

"Rain, rain go away. Come again another day. Little children want to play!” A lot of us parents wish the rain would go away because it does have the tendency to take the fun out of our lives.

While rain is a natural occurrence, it can also bring about flooding, extreme traffic and sickness. As parents, nothing concerns us more than the well-being of our kids. So, the thought of rain oftentimes makes us worry about its possible effects on our family.

Luckily, we can protect our kids from getting sick by providing them with the proper rainy day gear. Before your child leaves the house for school or for any day out, pack these 8 must-have rainy day gear in his bag.
Umbrella

Umbrella

An umbrella is an essential rainy day gear that protects your child from the rain. Make sure it is of good quality, durable and suitable for children. Let your child choose a design he wants in order to motivate him to bring the umbrella. Buy a foldable one that you can store easily in his bag so that he wouldn’t have to hold it when it’s not raining.
Raincoat

Raincoat

When the rain is heavier and it’s windy outside, sometimes just an umbrella is not enough. Pack a raincoat too to protect your child’s clothes from getting wet. Get one that has long sleeves to cover his arms. A raincoat with a hood is best so that you will no longer have to buy a separate rain hat.
Jacket

Jacket

Your child still needs protection when he’s cold indoors during a rainy day. Have him wear a jacket to keep him snug and warm. Jackets can also be an alternative to raincoats. Just choose one made of rainproof material.
Rain Boots or Water-resistant Plastic Shoes

Rain Boots or Water-resistant Plastic Shoes

During a rainy day, it’s essential that you choose proper shoes for your kids to wear. Regular shoes will get ruined in the rain. However, rain boots will protect your child’s feet from getting wet. This is especially necessary for areas that tend to flood easily. As an alternative, use water-resistant plastic shoes instead. They are more durable and easier to clean.
Towel

Towel

Just in case your child gets wet, he has to dry off as soon as possible to prevent him from getting sick. An absorbent towel will do the job. Pack one that is just the right size for your child’s bag.
Facial Tissues and Wet Wipes

Facial Tissues and Wet Wipes

If your child’s clothes get soiled or in case he needs to wipe his belongings dry, a pack of tissues will come in handy. This is also necessary in case he gets a cold. Wet wipes can be used to clean his face and hands when soap and water are not available.
Hand Sanitizer or Alcohol

Hand Sanitizer or Alcohol

During the rainy season, it’s easier for germs to get passed around from one kid to another. So teach your child to sanitize often. Alcohol or hand sanitizers are handy and easy to use especially when your child has no access to a clean restroom.
Change of Clothes

Change of Clothes

One can never be too prepared. Just in case your child gets wet in the rain, he needs to get out of those wet clothes fast. So pack an extra set in his bag. Don’t forget to include extra underwear and socks.

When it comes to our children’s health and safety, we have to take extra precaution. Teach your child that he can still stay safe and have fun even during a rainy day. Just arm him with these essential rainy day gear so that you won’t have to worry.
