Respect the mother of your child, says dad in a viral Facebook post

3 min read

At the end of the day, we just want someone to come home to after a long day, someone to share meals with and wake up next to, someone to love us and take care of us and be with us for the rest of our lives.

It seems like a saccharine sentiment, the stuff of romance that occurs only in Hallmark and those popular paperbacks we refuse to admit we love reading. After all, how many people do we actually know who has a happily ever after?

This father seems as if he’s on his way to having one.

In his Facebook post that has since gone viral, Tony Emms has written an open letter to his fiancé Charlotte Sperry telling what an amazing woman she is and the many amazing things she does for their child.

“I sometimes don’t give this woman the credit she is due,” the Facebook post began. “When I come from work she is always “tired,” now it’s me who has been at work doing stuff all day, but lately I’ve been thinking what this amazing woman does while I’m out.”

“Respect the mother of your child. She is a special type of human that has given up everything to bring up your baby. I truly love my 2 sleeping baby’s and they both deserve their rest.”

The Facebook post has been liked more than 44,000 times and shared more than 14,000 times.

“I think my post had the reaction it did because it made other people realize just what mothers do,” Tony told the news.

Tony has been spending more at home because of his job schedule during the winter, and being with his family put her fiancé’s role into perspective.

“Having done this [staying home] it reflected to me just how much my partner has to do during the day,” he said. “I literally posted the status just as my way of apologizing and making it aware to any other daddys on my friends list just how much mummies do.”
