Did you know that apart from the first trimester, and the last 4 weeks of pregnancy, pregnant couples can have enjoyable sex without any risk? If you want to know more about the myths surrounding sex during pregnancy, then read on!
1. Orgasms can cause a miscarriage
A lot of pregnant women think that if they have an orgasm during marriage, it could cause them to prematurely go into labor or have a miscarriage.
While it’s true that women can feel contractions during orgasm, these are just mild and normal contractions of the uterus. They’ll also eventually go away after a bit.
That’s why there’s no need to worry about having an orgasm if you’re pregnant. It’s safe, and totally normal to have sex during pregnancy!
2. The baby might get hurt
Some people might think that sex during pregnancy hurts the baby, but that’s totally false.
Your baby is completely and totally protected by the amniotic sac, and the amniotic sac is also plugged by a mucus plug at the opening of the cervix.
Also, even the deepest penetration can’t touch your baby’s head, so even if the baby is growing, there’s no way to hurt your baby!
3. Sperm might trigger labor
While there’s research that actually supports the premise that sperm can trigger labor, it shows that it’s not a big risk for women who are pre-term.
Interestingly, for moms whose labor is overdue, sex is a good way of inducing labor! Some doctors even recommend it, and it’s a better, and more fun alternative compared to an induction drip.
4. It’s impossible to have sex during pregnancy
Sex during pregnancy can be different, and sometimes hard to do if, but it’s not impossible.
In fact, the body actually gears up for easier and more pleasurable sex during pregnancy, since the increased blood flow to the pelvic area heightens sensations and also engorges the genitals which leads to better sex!
5. Pregnant women don’t want to have sex
In some cases, the hormones present in a woman’s body during pregnancy can cause them to have mood swings, and affect their sex drive.
Sometimes pregnant women want to have more sex, while others lose their sex drive. It could be a possible explanation why some people think that pregnant women don’t want to have sex, but in reality there are also a lot of women who have a stronger sex drive when they’re pregnant.
As with regular sex, it really depends on you and your partner’s mood whether you want to have sex or not.
Bonus: Sex during pregnancy can help relax you and your baby!
Did you know that during orgasm, the body produces higher levels of oxytocin and endorphins, which can help relieve exhaustion, negativity, and anxieties?
It also helps keep you calm, and relaxes your baby since they will also benefit from the hormones that are inside your body!
So don’t get scared of sex during pregnancy, embrace it, and we’re sure that you’ll feel that much closer with your partner.
