3 reasons why single parents stay single

Recent studies have found that the preference for singlehood among adults and parents is more common than people think.

Nowadays, more single parents stay single instead of remarrying or finding a partner to help them raise their children. In truth, some single parents started raising their children without a significant other.

Entering and staying in a long-term relationship is a huge decision that requires you to consider carefully. There are various reasons why people choose to become single people and parents instead of looking for a lifetime partner.

In this article, you’ll read:

  • 3 Reasons Why Single Parents Stay Single
  • A Partner Is No Longer Essential in Having Kids

Undeniably, there are numbers of people who are not single by choice. Searching for the one and getting a life partner for themselves is not always as easy as 1-2-3. People come and go—and it also happens in a romantic relationship.

Meanwhile, several people across the globe consider singlehood a conscious choice. While marriage works better for many people, it is never impossible that singlehood could work better for others.

Recent studies have found that the preference for singlehood among adults and parents is more common than people think. Almost half of the adults find it difficult to be in a long-term intimate relationship.

There are various reasons why adults and many single parents stay single than look for a lifetime partner. Most of them find their current lives comfortable without a life partner.

Because of this, some might say that those who choose to remain single are afraid of changing their life for another person. However, it’s more complex than you think.

Concerning this, here are the three primary reasons why single parents remain single:

Highly Career-Focused

Indeed, we live in an era where the large population of career-focused individuals keeps growing. These are the people who strongly value their career as one of the most essential parts of their lives. They tend to prioritise their job and career over anything else.

Thinking with radical honesty, there is nothing wrong with focusing more on yourself and your desires. No one has the right to tell anyone that it is not okay to focus mainly on building one’s career. It is because it is a decision only individuals can make for themselves.

Concerning this, there are certain moments when people lose interest in love and relationships as they focus more on themselves and their careers. Recent studies have found that having good career matters more to one’s happiness than having a romantic partner.

More Comfortable Exercising Freedom

In most cultures and societies, it is part of the norm to associate and build relationships with your partner’s family. It happens most especially when a couple gets married. It would be essential for people to make a solid connection to the other party as it works for most people.

However, some people prefer going against the typical norm. Some feel most comfortable when they do not fit in and choose to exercise their freedom in unconventional ways. Some people do it by choice, but for some, it is just a part of their personality.

Single Parenthood Is an Option

The primary reason some parents and those who plan to become parents choose singlehood is that they realise it is truly an option. Nowadays, people realise that having a partner is no longer that crucial in raising a child.

Technology makes it easier for people to communicate and build a connection with people with the same interests as you. People pursue single parenthood as they get enough support system without the need to commit to a romantic relationship.

A lot of people used to think that single parenthood was never a choice available for anyone. People are used to thinking that no one could raise a child without a partner, especially women.

A Partner Is No Longer Essential in Having Kids

Breaking the stigma of single parenthood, more people and cultures are opening themselves to accepting single parenting.

It is undeniable that single parenthood has a negative stigma associated with it. A lot of people across the globe still believe that unmarried parent is bad for society. They even considered single parenthood a wrong choice, especially when taking care of themselves financially.

Myth: It Takes Two People to Be Good Parents

Meanwhile, the population of people believing that having a partner is no longer essential if you want to have kids keep on growing. Many people hope to break the “myth” that it takes two people to be good parents.

For many people who want to pursue single parenthood, thinking it takes two people to be good parents is a huge misconception. For them, people do not necessarily need a romantic partner to raise a child. Finding a good support system and stable financial resources matters most.

Concerning this, experts say that support systems can be in the form of family, friends, religious beliefs, and social networks. Additionally, having the resources to create a great home for a family is essential whether a person has or does not have a partner.
