Every time your child gets physically aggressive, address it right away. Calmly sit him down and point out what he did wrong. Then, give him suggestions as to how to handle the situation next time. The manner in which you word your suggestion is important, your child will most likely respond better to your saying, "Use your words when angry” than "Don’t hit.”
Control your emotions

When dealing with your child, make sure to maintain a calm demeanor. Speak calmly but firmly. Never resort to hitting or shouting.
Try empathy

Try empathy

As soon as your child calms down, assess the situation with him. For example, point out that you understand what may have triggered him to hit, but also reiterate that it is not okay to hit other kids. Then, calmly listen to your child while he explains himself.
Ask for suggestions

Ask for suggestions

Ask your child what he thinks he can do to avoid a repeat of the situation and what he can do to keep his temper in check. Making him feel important by giving input helps build up his self- confidence.

Along with discussing the consequences of his failing to behave, it is important to talk about rewarding good behavior. Let him take his pick of reward, whether it be giving him a small toy or munching on a yummy treat.

Talk to your child the consequences he must face if he fails to "keep his hands to himself.” Depending on your child’s age and the gravity of his actions, the consequences may entail losing a treat, going into time-out and so on.

Identify situations that trigger your child’s outburst and help him learn how to deal with them or avoid the situation altogether.
Reassure him

Reassure him

If you notice that your child stays down after talking to him, reassure him that he’s a good boy and that you love him. Remind him of instances wherein he displayed good behavior and mention that you are sure that he will do his best to not make the same mistakes again.
