Kervy James Villarejo is a grade 5 student from General Santos City who, at a very young age, already knows just how important hard work is in order to achieve your goals.
He bravely went to the company and asked for a job
According to a Facebook post from Chriszel Singco Vicente, an employee at Charter Ping An Insurance Corporation, Kervy went to their office and asked if there was anything that he could do, in exchange for money that would go towards a school project. He said that he was willing to mop the floors, sweep around the office, and do some general cleaning so that he can earn enough money for the said school project.
Moved by Kervy’s eagerness to work, and not simply ask or solicit for money, the employees decided to just give Kervy the money instead of making him work. They talked to the young boy, and found out that he wanted to become a pilot when he grows up. Kervy was thankful for the money that the employees gave him, and promised that he would come back to the office to show them the school project.
Chriszel wrote on her post, “Ako po ay isa ding single mom, ginagawa lahat para maprovide ang pangangailangan ng anak ko, masakit para sa amin na ganito kalagayan ng batang si Kervy pero Nakaka proud talaga siya.”
She then urged all netizens who were reading her post to share their blessings and help Kervy out in any way that they can. She asked if they could donate school supplies, or anything that would help Kervy in school.
An outpouring of support
Amazingly, her post was met by an outpouring of support from a lot of people who were moved by the boy’s willingness to work, even at such a young age.
One netizen wrote, “Kailan po siya babalik sa office ninyo ate? Gusto ko pa siyang makita tapos may ibibigay din ako.”
Another said, “Madam let me know kelan babalik yung bata. Magbibgay (ako) kahit pambaon niya.”
In this day and age, it’s amazing to see that a young boy took the hard route, and asked if he could work in order to earn money, instead of using pity to ask for the money, or begging for it. It really shows that Kervy’s parents raised him well, and hopefully, he will inspire other people about the value of earning and not just asking for money.
