Teachers traumatized after Surigao earthquake

17 Feb, 2017

ITeachers from Surigao City and Surigao del Norte are undergoing debriefing in order for them to help with the trauma that they experienced during the intense earthquake.

Trauma can manifest in different ways

According to authorities, 3 out of 10 teachers that they talked to have shown different signs of trauma. They add that trauma can manifest in different ways, including lack of sleep, fear of various noises, or fear of the dark.

Some have even been reported to flee or run away if they feel any tremors or shaking in the ground.

This is why it’s very important for people who have went through such an intense tragedy to undergo stress debriefing in order for them to help cope with the trauma that they have experienced.

Failing to deal with the trauma can lead to problems in the future, and can even cause PTSD.

The process of healing isn’t easy

It’s especially important for teachers since they interact directly with students, and they are the ones whom the students depend on for emotional stability and strength. Helping deal with their trauma also helps teachers to not project their anger, frustration, or fear towards their patients.

However, the process of healing isn’t easy. In some cases, people who are undergoing debriefing have to face very strong emotions, and can even be heard crying or screaming. However, those are normal reactions for people who are trying to come face to face with their traumatic experiences.

What is stress debriefing?

Stress debriefing involves using different forms of therapy to help a person deal with a traumatic or troubling experience in their life. Stress debriefing also helps people cope with the trauma that they have experienced so that they can successfully go on with their lives without being too affected by a traumatic experience.

In some cases, it can help people come to terms with loss, and helps them come to terms with their emotions and express themselves in a healthy way. In some cases, a lack of stress debriefing after a traumatic event can cause emotional damage, or in worse cases, PTSD.

It’s also important to note that not all reactions to a traumatic experience can immediately be seen, as in some cases, it can take a while for those feelings to manifest, or it can take a trigger before it shows up. That’s also another reason why stress debriefing is vital, since it deals with the problem before it can escalate any further.

Additionally, it can help people who suffered from a traumatic experience move one from that part of their lives and focus more on their future.
