When children and teenagers become addicted to mobile phones and tablets, it is understandable: it’s the norm for their generation, and it a way their obsession with technology is almost forgivable.
But when adults, particularly parents, become so obsessed with mobile phones and social media that nothing else figures, it is a cause for more concern.
Such was the case with this Chinese mother who failed to see her son being crushed by an SUV because she was too busy looking at her smartphone.
The horrific scene was captured by a CCTV camera in a residential area in Anhui Province, eastern China.
Reported to have occurred April 19, the clip shows a toddler walking across the street while his mother is busy checking herself and fixing her hair with the front camera of her phone.
The toddler approaches an idle SUV, and because he is in the car’s blind spot, the driver, when he finally pushes down on the gas and accelerates, runs over the boy, crushing him under the front right wheels.
When the driver feels the foreign object beneath his car, he leaves his car to examine what had happened.
By the time the mother finally realized what had happened, it was too late. The clip ends showing her breaking down in front of the driver.
According to a report by The Epoch Times, the child was rushed to the Lu’an People’s Hospital and pronounced dead.
