A magnitude 7.8 earthquake tore through the country’s Pacific coastal region, 413 people dead and more than 2,500 people severly injured.
Rescuers predict that this number will continue to rise along with their search and rescue efforts throughout the many leveled buildings and cities turned to rubble.
It is said to be the strongest quake to hit the country since 1987.
Three major earthquakes have been reported in Japan and Ecuador, which has alarmed the public. Geologists are investigating these disasters and looking into the possibility of these catastrophic quakes being linked to the ‘Pacific Ring of Fire’ which, they fear, may cause more earthquakes in the coming months.
