5 Ways to have your husband spend time on you… and not on social media

3 Jun, 2016

Our lives (and our relationships) appear to be governed and monitored by social media today. Here are some tips on getting around it.

5 ways to have your husband spend time on you… and not on social media

5 ways to have your husband spend time on you… and not on social media

The draw of social media platforms is undeniable in that they allow us to connect with our long-lost friends or find out that the school geek is now super hot, making for juicy gossip.

But they also take away time that we would otherwise spend with our loved ones. We've come up with a (hopefully) full-proof plan of things you can do to make sure that your husband will spend more time on you.... and not on social media!
#1 Make husband and wife activities more fun than his newsfeed

#1 Make husband and wife activities more fun than his newsfeed

Social media is distracting. It provides a simple pleasurable activity that one can get lost in for hours at end.

The solution: plan activities for the family. It can be something as exciting as going on a hike for the weekend or as chill as preparing Sunday's lunch together. The most important thing is to enjoy quality time.
#2 Switch off too

#2 Switch off too

This may seem like an obvious solution, but you will be surprised at how many fail to do it. Putting down your smartphone or closing the lid of your laptop is the first step you can take to spend more time with each other.

After all, if he sees you on Facebook commenting on your friend's hilarious post, he will be tempted to check his own account. So, switch off your phone (all the way! Do not just lock it and leave it there as a distraction) and spend some quality time with your loved ones!
#3 Remember to switch off all devices!

#3 Remember to switch off all devices!

Like every other household, I'm sure you have multiple mobile devices lying around the house. The laptop on the coffee table, the tablet by your bedside or your smartphone on the dining table. All these make it convenient for you to go on social media for just a second.

That "second' will turn into minutes and before long, the only time spent with your husband is when the both of you are lying down beside each other browsing Instagram together.
#4 Go out

#4 Go out

Our country has so much to offer travel-wise. Plan a trip or just go to the neighborhood park!

Besides the joy of having your loved ones for company, being outside and having some fresh air is so much more preferable to the stuffy environment you are stuck in from 9 to 5. Engage in some exercise and you will feel good about yourself too!
#5 Have face-to-face time

#5 Have face-to-face time

In our era of texting, Skype calls and tweeting, we may have missed out on the importance of having regular face-to-face conversations. Our body language, tone and facial expressions convey information that we miss out on in digi-talk, even with the use of emoticons and stickers.

Get your husband to sit down with you for a conversation about your day, the kids, the family pet, or activities you'd want to do together. You'll find that regularly having eye contact and playing off each other's reactions will do wonders for your relationship.

Now, close your laptop screen, lock your phones and try this plan out with your husband!
