Naglabas na ng pahayag ang Ateneo de Manila University ukol sa desisyon nito sa naturang Ateneo bully na nakuhanan ng video na nananakit ng ka-eskwela sa comfort room ng paaralan. Ayon sa presidente ng paaralan na si Fr. Jet Villarin SJ, matapos ang kanilang imbestigasyon, napag-desisyunan ng eskwelahan na papatawan ng “dismissal” ang naturang estudyante. Ang ibig sabihin daw nito ay hindi na maaaring bumalik ang naturang Ateneo bully sa paaralan.
Dagdag ni Fr. Jet sa kaniyang statement na nakausap niya ang pamilya ng Ateneo bully at ng biktima sa naging desisyon ng paaralan.
“I have spoken to the parents of both students about this decision and have offered the families continued support to help them overcome this difficult time.”
Patuloy pa rin daw ang imbestigasyon tungkol sa “other matters involved in the incident.” Hindi man malinaw kung ano ang “other matters,” inaasahan din ng publiko ang pag-imbestiga sa mga nag-video at naging witness sa insidente—pati na rin ang ibang videos na lumabas ng pananakit ng Ateneo bully sa iba pang estudyante.
“We acknowledge that this incident has inflicted widespread and profound pain not only on the persons involved and their families, but on each member of our community as well,” dagdag pa niya.
Nanawagan din ang pari: “We have the power to amplify the pain by simply fanning the flames of hatred and violence, by fighting fire with fire. Our young ones cannot escape all this unscathed. They are the ones most wounded by our violent words and example.”
Ateneo stand against bullying
Bukod sa resulta ng imbestigasyon tungkol sa Ateneo bully, nagbigay din si Fr. Jet ng pahayag tungkol sa stand ng Ateneo laban sa bullying.
“There are already policies and processes codified in the Student Handbook, all in accord with existing legislation, but we still need to ensure that these policies and processes as well as the values they promote are internalized by all members of the community.”
Nagtalaga raw ang paaralan ng “Task Force” upang imbestigahan ang “current situation” upang mapaigting pa ang kampanya ng eskwelahan laban sa bullying at ma-prevent ang “culture of silence,” kung saan pinipili ng mga biktima at witness na manahimik na lang imbis na isumbong ang mga insidente ng bullying dahil sa takot ng “retaliation or censure.”
