Biker travels over 500 kilometers from Pasig to Sorsogon to be with his sick brother!

23 Jan, 2017

Jessie Hallig is not only an avid biker, he’s also a very devoted brother. So when he found out that his older brother was sick, he set out on a 500km journey from Pasig to Sorsogon so that he can be with his beloved Kuya Rham.

You just have to keep pedaling

In an interview, Jessie shared that while taking the bus to Sorsogon would be faster and easier, he decided that biking would be a better option since the money that he would save could be put to use for his brother’s medication.

He also wanted to bike all the way from Pasig to Sorsogon to inspire his brother that even if the road might seem difficult, all that you need to do is keep pedaling until you reach your destination. He wanted to be a symbol for his brother so that his Kuya Rham can overcome his illness.

His brother suddenly collapsed on Christmas Eve

According to netizen Enrique Ballon Gonzales, Jessie’s Kuya Rham got sick on Christmas Eve last year. He shared that Kuya Rham suddenly collapsed shortly before Noche Buena, and was taken to a hospital where he was confined for 5 days. Sadly, since they didn’t have the funds, he was forced to leave the hospital.

On January 7th, he was brought from Pasig to their home in Sorsogon, so that his family can take better care of him. About a week later, he was taken to the Bicol Regional Training and Teaching Hosptal for treatment but he was only confined there for one day.

Since then, his condition has gradually deteriorated, and he was living on a diet of powdered milk and lugaw. According to reports, he was diagnosed with Immunocompromised pneumonia.

Just keep pedaling

Jessie heard about his brother’s deteriorating condition, so he set out on the 18th of January for his more than 500 kilometer journey to Bicol, Sorsogon, so that he can be with his ailing brother.

Sadly, it wasn’t a happy ending as his brother passed away when he was only three hours away from home. It was tragic and devastating, but his amazing feat that came from his love for his brother has captured the hearts and inspired thousands of people online.

So far, his story has 29,000 shares on Facebook. We know that wherever his Kuya Rham may be, he’s very happy that his brother was able to inspire people to just keep pedaling on, no matter what struggles they encounter in life.
