According to the latest nationwide Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey, three out of five Filipinos choose career over love.
Conducted from December 8 to 16, 2017, the survey showed 59% of adult Filipinos chose career over love. The rest, at 41%, chose love. The survey was conducted using face-to-face interviews of 1,200 adults.
The preference of career over love
The SWS survey asked its respondents the following question:
“In case you have to choose between your love life and career, which of these two would you choose?”
This preference for career over love is especially high among single individuals, regardless of gender.
Oddly enough, the survey also found that 57% described their love life as “very happy”, 29% said “it could be happier”, while 14% said they “do not need to have a love life.”
Success of career over love
The survey also revealed that 84% believed that it’s possible to succeed in both their career and love life at the same time.
Meanwhile, 5% said it’s somewhat impossible to make both work at the same time. Meanwhile 3% believed that it was definitely impossible.
It’s worth noting that the belief that both love life and career can succeed was higher among married people and people with live-in partners.
The SWS survey also said married people are happier in their love lives compared to live-in partners.
Happier with career over love?
In terms of being single, the survey also found out that younger single men are happier with their love life compared to younger single women.
Breaking that down into data, 45% of single men, aged 18 – 34 years old, were very happy with their love life. This is compared to 28% of single women of the same age group.
However, if you go up in age group, the situation flips. There’s 23% of single women 35-years-old and above who were very happy with their love life, compared to 16% of single men in the same age group.
The survey adds that having no love life is more common among older singles than younger singles.
