Police rescued 11 children, and arrested 5 adults during a drug bust operation that happened in Cebu City.
“My father will be so angry at me”
“Beth,” a 16-year-old who was rescued, shared, “I just enrolled myself for the opening of classes last Friday. My father will be so angry at me.”
The minors were being used as drug couriers to deliver drugs to different dealers throughout the city. According to another minor named “Jessa,” they were being paid 2000 pesos a day to deliver shabu.
She adds, “The small sachets costs P500 while the half medium packs costs P3,500. I give the money to my ailing father who is in the hospital with diabetes.”
The age of the kids who were rescued range from 11-17, and they will be turned over to the DSWD.
“You are supposed to be the role models”
Meanwhile, Chief Insp. Cristopher Navida shared, “You are supposed to be the role model because you are the parents. If we find out that other drug pushers are using their own kids as couriers, we will run after them.”
According to Senior Insp. Sheila Gurtiza, chief of the Women and Children’s Protection Desk, the children will be interviewed by the DSWD, since the crime that they committed is punishable by more than 6 years in prison.
She added that it will be up to the social workers to assess whether or not the children were really involved, and if any charges should be filed against them.
