The intense flooding that happened in Misamis Oriental and Cagayan de Oro has sadly claimed the lives of two more people.
Both of them had drowned
Zian Angel Montesino, 10, from Misamis Oriental, and Franklin Ociosbello, 59, from Cagayan de Oro city were killed on separate incidents during the heavy rains. Both of them had drowned because of the floods.
According to reports, the 10-year-old drowned in the floods, and his body was recovered in Opol Town, Misamis Oriental, on Monday evening.
Franklin Ociosbello, 59, from Barangay Balulang, was found dead in the Cagayan de Oro City River, where his body was fished out.
Over 5,000 people were affected by the intense rains
According to city officials from Cagayan de Oro City, 1,060 persons from flood-prone villages moved to evacuations centers on Monday evening, when the rains were the heaviest.
In Misamis Oriental, roughly 4,000 persons who lived near rivers and creeks were sent to evacuation centers that were on higher grounds.
All in all, over 5,000 people were affected by the intense rains.
Currently, classes are suspended in all levels of public schools, and the Provincial Disaster, Risk Reduction Management Office are currently assessing the damage.
Cagayan de Oro City is currently under a state of calamity as the heavy rain devastated the city’s downtown area as well as the nearby barangays.
