Here's how to have a romantic evening without leaving the house

3 min read

Here’s the truth: you can’t have a great marriage unless you’re willing to put in the work. But the best part about maintaining a marriage is if you’re doing it right, it can only make your relationship stronger and deeper. Plus, who says you can’t have fun while making an effort?

One theAsianparent Community user asked the community for recommendations for a surprise date for her husband:

Melissa got plenty of staycation and spa recommendations from the theAsianparent Community community. But why wait until Christmas for a romantic weekend? If you’re on a budget or you don’t have the time to leave the house, you can make your own staycation right in the comforts of your own home. Here’s how.

1. Set a date.

As you and your partner have other obligations, it’s important for you to set a date so you can block it off. Though this means skipping the surprise, it’s better if you agree on a day so you won’t let anything interfere with your plans. And, of course, you’d probably want to ask the grandparents to babysit the kids for the evening.

2. Create ambiance.

Go all out. Candles, rose petals, mood music, incense—the works! You can rearrange the furniture as well so it feels like a totally different place.

3. Dress the part.

Wear something that your partner loves and that makes you feel sexy and confident. Of course, you should give your partner hints to gussy up as well.

4. Wine and dine.

Keep your dinner light, as eating too much will only make you sleepy. Wine is essential, but don’t go overboard—you want to loosen up and have fun, not get hammered.

5. Enjoy yourselves.

We’re not just talking in bed—though that’s a given. Do something fun like watch a movie, play a game, slow-dance to your favorite song, or simply put away your mobile phones and actually talk to each other. Go on, go have a real conversation!
