Growing a human can take its toll on a body and one of the most persistent side effects post-birth is the appearance of stretch marks.

While we’re all for being proud of our saggy tummies and "war wounds”, it also helps us become more confident if we can minimize marks which we feel are unsightly.

If you want to shed baby weight, hit the gym. But, sadly, there is no amount of exercise which will rid your body of stretch marks.

The bad news is they won’t completely disappear but the good news is that they can be made less noticeable if you start trying to fight them before they even appear.

Here are nine natural remedies you can find in your very own kitchen!

Potato Juice

Potato Juice

The vitamins and minerals found in potato juice lessens the risk of stretch marks by restoring skin cells.

Just slice a potato in half and rub it on your belly.

Lemon Juice

Lemon Juice

Rub juice into problem areas where you think stretch marks could appear. The natural acids found in lemon juice are effective in "bleaching” and causing stretch marks to fade.

Leave it for 10 minutes, for maximum absorption, before rinsing off.

Egg Whites

Egg Whites

The proteins in egg whites rejuvenate the skin. Rub these in potentially affected areas three times daily!

Shea Butter

Shea Butter

Massage into your skin thoroughly a couple of times a day to moisturize it!

Making this a habit can stop stretch marks before they even start to appear.

Apricot

Apricot

More popularly used as facial masks, apricot masks can also work to combat stretch marks.

Mash up apricots and apply to your belly and other problem areas. Let it sit for 15 minutes before rinsing off thoroughly.

This method works best if done frequently.

Olive Oil

Olive Oil

Vitamin E, which is found in Olive oil, restores skin tissue and softens it enough for it to expand without the risk for stretch marks.

Apply it on your skin throughout your pregnancy and see the results.

Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera

This can be effective before or after pregnancy. Aside from diminishing stretch marks, it heals and soothes the skin. The best thing about aloe vera is that it is gentle enough to be used daily.

Turmeric

Turmeric

There have been a lot of accounts of turmeric working wonders once mixed with water or oil!

This paste, once spread on stretch marks twice a day, will help you say goodbye to stretch marks.

Sugar

Sugar

Regular sugar, on its own, won’t really be effective. But, if you mix it with a few drops of oil and lemon juice, it will prove to be a great exfoliator.

Rub the homemade scrub into stretch marks before showering daily and leave for a few minutes before rinsing off.

Not only does it work but it leaves you with a sweet scent, too!
