Some of you might also know how Jodi plays a similar role in the show, a wife and a mother who had to go through pain brought by a broken marriage.
In an interview with Karen Davila, Jodi Sta. Maria reveals her journey of healing from a “broken marriage vow”.
Victim or Victor?
When asked if Jodi was ever a victim just like Dr. Jill, Jodi says she can’t say that she was never broken but it is in one’s perspective whether he or she will be a victim or a victor of the experience.
She says further, “Maraming situation na hindi nagwork sa favor ko, marami ding mga tao na nakapanakit sa ‘yo [sa akin], I guess it’s normal because we live in a broken world filled with broken people. And wounded people wound people.”

Feelings of shame and guilt
“Hindi ka naman papasok sa isang commitment or isang covenant para lang masira ‘di ba?”
When Jodi realized her marriage was broken she says she had feelings of shame and guilt for not being able to save her marriage and for not being able to provide her son, Thirdy, with a complete family.
“Nagkaroon ako ng feelings of shame, of guilt. Nakakahiya na hindi ko naayos.”

She bares how she felt low, lost and depressed. Thus, she turned to constant partying and alcohol as a distraction. But once the alcohol wears off the next day, she jokingly says that it’s no longer just the heart that’s in pain but also her head with the hangover from drinking.
After that coping mechanism, she found herself with lots of projects including the regular noontime show, Be Careful With My Heart where she played Maya and Richard Yap played Sir Chief.
Later on, the two characters become household names because of its hit, and Jodi found herself on back-to-back tours, even internationally.
However, even with the success and newfound fame, Jodi still felt empty and lonely. Until many circumstances and people ushered her into joining Christ’s church.

Jodi’s strengthened faith
One time, Garlic, Jodi’s close friend (who also happens to be Karen’s friend!) invited her to watch the concert by Gary Valenciano where Jodi first heard the song, Take Me Out of the Dark. She said it immediately resonated with her.
After the concert, Jodi and Garlic met with Gary V backstage where the latter prayed for Jodi. More so, another celebrity friend Cony Reyes has been asking her to come to church for so long. These people, she realized, were the way for her to find Christ.
And with Christ, she was able to forgive.

Jodi Sta. Maria shares her experiences after having a separation from his ex-husband Pampi Lacson. Jodi admits it was not easy getting over the broken marriage.
She said she went through all the feelings of grief and loss which was difficult. But then, it came to a point of realizing what’s more important than the anger and resentment she was feeling every day. It was peace in her soul.
More than this, she didn’t want her son to be in the middle of her and Pampi’s misunderstandings.
“Hindi na nga namin siya nabigyan ng pamilya na buo, iipitin pa ba namin siya doon sa gulo namin dahil hindi kami magkasundo?”
In forgiving Jodi Sta. Maria husband, Jodi thinks forgiveness is a choice you have to choose every day. She believes that we forgive because we are also forgiven.
“We’ve done so many things in our lives na naka-hurt ng todo-todo kay Lord, and yet, unlimited ‘yong grace and forgiveness na ibinibigay sa atin. So bakit hindi ako magpapatawad? We should forgive as the Lord forgave us.”
Jodi says it is not easy but it is possible.

While Jodi has reconciled with Pampi Lacson, who is now with Iwa Moto and daughter Hiromi, Jodi maintains to be a single and working mother who takes care of his son and takes him on dates and trips.
She says that with the nature of her job, she wants to make sure that she is able to make up for the time she was not able to be with Thirdy, through dates and trips. Sometimes, with Jodi’s friends and family too.
On being a blended family, Jodi says that “A loss of a marriage is not a loss of a parent.” Thus she believes that it is important that both parents play an equal part in the life of their child.
This, after learning how having a broken home affects one’s growth and wellbeing. Jodi was a fruit of a broken marriage as well.

When asked if Jodi plans on getting married again she answered, “In my heart, I know, I would want to take that road again, with the right person in God’s perfect time.”
