Would you choose a unique name for your baby or would you opt for something more conventional?

There are those who go for typical names to stay on the safe side, while some parents really go all out with creativity as far as baby names go. Often, the resulting names are so unusual, they make us smile and go "hmmm."

We are all familiar with names with extra Hs, like Jhoy, Bhoy, Mharla and Jhanssen. We even saw a contestant on the first season of Survivor Philippines named Vevherly Gador, nicknamed Vevh.

Here are 14 more unusual Filipino baby names that can bring a smile to your face. We promise, these are real people!

1. Babies named after days and months

It isn’t hard to figure out what month or day a baby was born in if he or she is named January, August, June, May or Tuesday.

2. Babies with food names

Cheese Pimiento, Jollly Spaghetti, Onion and Garlic could possibly be named after their parents’ favorite food or what their mothers had a craving for during pregnancy.

3. Babies who have the name of a famous person

Superstar boxer Manny Pacquiao loves the English Queen that he named one of his daughters Queen Elizabeth.

Other baby names that include names of famous persons are Edgar Allen Pe, Magic Tiongson, and Karen Carpentero.

4. Babies who have the names of popular characters

It doesn’t stop at famous people. Some babies were named after popular characters, too. Just a guess, but both Jonathan Livingston Sy and Lord Voldemort Estioco’s parents could possibly be bookworms.

The names Aragorn and Frodo were also heard being called out at one school’s graduation ceremony. It's almost as if these Lord of the Rings characters were brought to life.

5. Parent name mashups

Actor Vandolph Quizon’s name is a combination of his parents’ first names – Vanessa (Alma Moreno) and Dolphy. He is far from being the only one whose name is a combination of mom and dad’s, though.

There’s Christaliza, the child of Christopher and Elizabeth, and Rhodelester, Rhodora and Lester’s baby. Erlicar is the kid of Erlino and Caridad, and Winifredo and Teresita chose to name their daughter Winter.

6. Single letter names

One mom named her kids J, K and L. Another one has A and D. Some parents pair the letters up, like what AB, CD and EF’s parents did when they named their kids. True story.

7. Baby names with special characters

An employee at an Alabang party venue shares that a father once booked a party for his son A_to_Z.

When asked why he chose this name, the dad said it was because there were so many suggestions given to him so he went ahead and used all of the letters in the alphabet.

There’s also Le’anrei, who was supposed to be named Leanrei until his parents decided to add in an apostrophe in between the first two syllables.

8. Names that contain numbers

Remember UPCAT passer Sincerely Yours 98, and her siblings Macaroni 85 and Spaghetti 88 (who happens to be Cheese Pimiento’s mother)? How about Jules Cyber 1A22, also an UPCAT passer?

As if these names weren't unique enough, their parents decided to also add numbers to them.

In the case of Macaroni, Spaghetti and Sincerely Yours, it was the year of birth of each child that was added to the end of their first names.

Maria Teresita, Maria Elena, Maria Luisa and Maria Concepcion are sisters. There’s also Ate Leonia, Kuya Leonidez and baby Leoningning.

10. Cartoon and video game inspired baby names

Would you believe that there is a baby called Megatron? There is also a boy named Ryu who happens to have a cousin named Ken, quite like the popular Street Fighter characters.

11. Peculiar first and last name combinations

First and last names should work well together, but sometimes they just don't.

There’s Habeas Corpuz who was one of the bar exam passers in 2013, and veterinarian Filipinas America. Then there's Zack Manipol and Zeus Sumo.

12. Ordinary names spelled in a creative way

Some parents choose to spice up common names by spelling them in unique ways. Some examples are Jeffray, Prenciss, Subryna and Rafoncil.
