Katherine’s Café: A new brand facing the new normal in the resto industry

Katherine’s Café has decided to open its doors once again to its longing clientele who have greatly missed their indulging desserts and comforting savory dishes.

The “New Normal” – we all probably heard this phrase a thousand times now since the COVID-19 pandemic struck. The entire world is facing an unexpected paradigm shift and all industries are drastically affected. For a new brand like Katherine’s Café, which has just began carving its mark in the food community, it has been quite a challenge. The young brand which opened its doors only last 2018 has successfully built quite a delightful rapport to the foodies of Metro Manila, offering a wide array of comfort food warmly served at a cozy and inviting place reminiscent of a family vacation home. Customers of all ages unsurprisingly flock to Katherine’s Café for brunch or coffee and even dinner or special occasions. Sadly, its growth is on pause due to the current situation. As we all know, dining might not be the same again as we move into this post quarantine setup.

Ushering in the new normal dining lifestyle during general community quarantine, Katherine’s Café has decided to open its doors once again to its longing clientele who have greatly missed their indulging desserts and comforting savory dishes. Only accepting thirty percent (30%) of its restaurant capacity for safety reasons, the brand is back and happily serving again.

“The unfolding developments of government mandates have honestly been quite worrying for us as the whole industry tries to adjust, but we remained positive and eager to serve our loyal guests.” mentioned Mr. Ramon de Ubago, Katherine’s Café’s President and CEO. Adapting to this new normal, Katherine’s Café now pro-actively offers take-out, curbside pick-up, and deliveries within Metro Manila. They even have a promotional free delivery offer for the month of July. From their delicious cakes perfect for special occasions, pastries, and snacks, all up to the delicious entrees – everything is available with just one message or call. “Now we also have hearty Platters with bigger servings ready to cater to families and celebrations at home” claimed Ms. Abby Borja, Head of Marketing. Looks like they will also be launching soon their bottled sauces and other tasty treats you can enjoy at your own home.

In the course of adapting to the new norm, Katherine’s Café does not want to lose its personal touch and they want to make sure dining in with them will still feel welcoming and homely while they adhere to strict health protocols. Aside from social distancing and limiting capacity, advance social Katherine’s Café utilizes temperature checks and filling out of declaration forms for all its guests. Sanitized foot mats and disinfectants are installed while the entire staff are equipped with personal protective gear. “We also use electronic menus via QR code, advance table booking and reservations, and encourage cashless transactions.” added Ms. Borja.

In essence, we are proud and happy for Katherine’s Café as it slowly tailored its way back into business while adapting to the new normal. We know it is not easy for a young brand but with a mindful determination to serve, there is a glimmer of hope. At Katherine’s Café, dishes are reminders of that much-loved comfort food but made even better by serving them with a compelling gourmet twist. Beyond that, what’s more significant is what Ms. Borja shared: “More than making people happy with our food, what we really want to be part of is making meaningful memories with our clients. We want to celebrate new milestones together with them – especially during this time when they need us most. Like for a child who can’t celebrate his or her birthday this year, or a senior couple who will celebrate their 50th Anniversary, we want to be there for them. Our specialty cakes, family platters, and more, are all available to make them feel loved and special. That is the goal.” Pretty inspiring, don’t you think?
