- Educational videos in English and Filipino.
As much as we hate to admit it, gadget time or screen time is already part of our growing kids’ lives.
While there are still parents who successfully raise their kids without any gadgets, a majority of us have accepted the reality that we live in a world where these things exist. We simply have to be more consistent with our kids on implementing healthy watching habits and be more discerning about the shows that they are exposed to.
As a mom of two grade-schoolers and a toddler, I’ve seen the different kinds of shows that are available online. The truth is, they’re not all that bad. Some of them are educational, and as a homeschooling mom, I’ve used some of these shows to teach my kids about certain topics.
However, some are just plain disturbing and highly stimulating for small children (read here on why overstimulating shows are not good for little kids).
Moreover, as a mom who wants to raise bilingual kids, I’m also concerned that there’s not a lot of material online for kids in our native language. This is a reality when you hear about kids who are better in English than they are in Filipino, despite having Pinoy parents and living in the Philippines. Some of them even got the slang and the accent from their favorite kid shows.

Good thing there are organizations like the Knowledge Channel. Founded in the 90s, Knowledge Channel aims to bring educational media content to Filipino kids in both Filipino and English languages.
Knowledge Channel shows are geared toward children of various ages and stages. They provide videos that entertaining, informative, and best of all, promotes good Filipino values.
If you want to give your child a break from his usual YouTube videos, here are some well-curated Knowledge Channel shows that your kid can access from our app.
Popular Filipino songs for kids
If you’re tired of listening to your kid’s favorite Cocomelon nursery rhymes, Knowledge Channel’s segment Musikantahan features classic Pinoy songs we grew up singing in our classrooms. Time to teach baby these fun and dancy tunes too!
Let’s start with the basics, shall we? If your toddler is in his ABC stage, you can add this video to his watchlist to familiarize himself more with the alphabet.
If your toddler is becoming more mobile, you can encourage him to watch this video and follow the actions by touching the body parts mentioned in the song. It’s great practice if you want him to know the Filipino names of his body parts.
Little kids are all about learning their body parts, so this is a good video for your little kid to watch. It teaches him about the parts of the body in Filipino, their uses, and tackles a bit about counting too!
If you want your child to be fluent in Filipino, one word you need to teach him is the greeting, “Kumusta,” and the right way to respond to it, which is what this song is all about.
Has your child memorized “The Incy Wincy Spider” yet? Here’s the Filipino version of the popular nursery rhyme that teaches kids about cause and effect. Do the actions of the song with your child to practice his fine motor skills too.
This is a new song from Knowledge Channel, but it has such a good meaning, you must let your growing child watch it. It talks about working hard and striving to reach your dreams. From the video, you can also teach your child about different community workers and verbs in Filipino.
ATBP Favorites
If you’re a millennial mom, you must have been a fan of the show ATBP. It’s our Pinoy version of Sesame Street which teaches preschool kids the basics of reading, letters, counting through music, colors, and animation. Knowledge Channel made a great move on making educational shows like this accessible to a new generation of Pinoy learners.
It would be nice to reminisce and let your child learn from these ATBP videos too.
This video is about the first basic shape kids learn. It would serve them well to know what circle is in Tagalog too!
Another ATBP video that tackles shape. This video teaches kids about the different items in the shape of a triangle. These ATBP videos are hilarious as they are educational, that’s for sure!
